Making a backyard rail for the summer, what materials should i use?

So i was thinking of making a backyard rail with pvc pipes, but my dad thinks that they'll wear out too quickly and that i should use high density pvc rails or something, but are there any other materials that would be easy to work with and are very slippery and durable?

pvc will be more than enough man, the stuff slides better than metal and it hurts less if you eat it.

only thing, if you make a pvc rail, make sure you have support underneath the pvc all along the length of the rail. basically don't ever be standing on just pvc with air underneath because it'll break.

just screw pvc into a 2x4, then add support/legs underneath the 2x4 and you're golden.

Btw use the black ones (abs pipes) , first time i used white pvc ones and they blew up after 3 hits, and the black ones are still going strong! Go to rona for them

make sure you file the ends of the pvc before using it. I didnt and my pvc rail was the cause of 4 core shots in under an hour.

Mine have a 1 inch diameter for the box and and 4 inches for the big 1 if anything it was just a mistake that you bought too thin PVC I don't think it has anything to do with the color Sorry if it sounds like I'm arguing but I'm not

My pvc pipes have lasted a season so far. I also found some sheet metal and bent it around some 2x4s and that works pretty good to.

my problem was that we couldnt get enough speed, and i built the rail too high, so occasionally the base of the ski could hit the front of the rail as you got on.

Get the 1 that has the greatest wall thickness, which is probably going to be scheduled 40 thickness. If you can find scheduled 80, get that, but it's mad expensive. That's what i have and the shit is so thick it's indestructable.

nah it was the same, it just depend on how cold it is and how many pipes are on your feature. If you only used 1 pipe then your weight on that pipe will probably break it but if your weight is on let say 5 pipes then it will most likely hold up.

If you have the budget, use pressure treated wood for the base (what you screw the pvc pipe onto). Pressure treated doesn't rot as fast and is a lot sturdier if you plan on using the rail for a long long time.

We built a rail and a box out of small pvc pipes two winters ago and they've been holding up amazingly ...pics in my profile.
