You guys are both taking things to the extremes. Most professional level competition skiers have been formally taught to ski one way or another usually at an early age. I'd bet as high as 95 percent of them. I'm not saying coach told them to double flip, but coach definetly told them to stay forward bend at the hips etc etc. Fundamental technique is very important to going anywhere in skiing and it seems to seperate the people that get alright at skiing from the people that make it to a high level. Another important thing is training the muscles in your body to function properly skiing, which you learn through dryland training for freestyle and racing(gym, trampoline)
lol...any major athlete that is making any real money through endorsements has contracts that outline the obligations of all parties involved, regardless of whether or not they are an independent contractor. they can't just "do what they want". it becomes a job like anything else and if the athlete doesn't fulfill their obligations then they wont get paid or their sponsor will drop them. in some cases i'm sure that an athlete's obligations include certain training protocol to help minimize injuries. also, i'm not talkin about some dude that has an entry level sponsorship with some random clothing company or something like that. i'm talkin about people like shaun white who help to generate millions upon millions of dollars in revenue through their endorsement of a product. its a business, and rules exist in business to minimize liability and increase profitability. i'm not saying this is a universal truth that exists within every company...but it is certainly true of the smart ones.
