Looked around the forums a bit before posting this, but i think there should be a thread where people post games they love, and why they think they are under appreciated.

My contribution: SSX On tour (not the new one)

Its like 5 dollars at any gamestop used for Gamecube / PS2 and it is by far money well spent.

I picked this game up this summer and holy shit, its one of the most enjoyable games i own. Although the game is primarily a snowboarding game, there is the option to ski. It really is fun as hell to ski SSX style, and honestly, for 5 bucks, you can't go wrong. If your looking for something to do, and you don't have the 60 dollars to drop on the new SSX game, def. buy this game.

Ridiculous

Definitely Shadow of the Colossus, Jak and Daxter series, SSX TRicky and On Tour, also the Portals, cant really think due to the high level of alcohol in my system right now

Portal's not because like I said not enough people have played it. Also Jak and Daxter died so quickly that barely anybody will bring that series up in a game discussion because nobody remembers it

Appreciation is not a sum of values, definitely not the number of players.

If this thread really is a bout underappreciated games, then it should be about games that were great, awesome and amazing but flew under the radar, catching only the eyes of game enthusiasts.

There hasn't been a single unappreciated game (by a semi-large community at least) in this thread.

I'm going to say that in my opinion, there is pretty much only one unappreciated game - that game is Kula World.

An awesome 3D puzzler in the first days of Playstation, it's a great and deep game developed by an unknown Swedish game developer. Check it out if you got the BIOS for it.

You contradicted yourself. You can't say it's not the number of players and then say it's games that flew under the radar. And by the "Appreciation is not the number of players" argument I could make the greatest game ever but be the only one to play it and it wouldn't be under appreciated. When it comes to games under appreciated is definitely measured by how large your fanbase is/sales versus how good the game was. The portal series was rated very highly. Gamers loved it but because it was a puzzle game and only available on PC/PS3 it never garnered the spotlight that it deserved therefore, in my opinion, it is under appreciated

Always stood in Ocarina's shadow, and was also overlooked because of it's not so friendly user controls. I prefer Ocarina's "epic and grand scale" vibe, but I also quite enjoy this games creepy, bizarre gameplay

I remember playing this game for hours with my friends when I was younger, there was so many maps that it always felt like a new game.

Also I would say mirrors edge, it went by pretty unnoticed but is easily one of my favorite games. You felt like a complete badass playing plus it felt very euphoric.

In this instance, I use the word 'number' to signify a larger group of people, not simply the amount of people.

Portal was priginally available to PS3, 360 and PC - it was part of The Orange Box and was rarely bought separately. A few years later it was made available for Mac and Linux as well, it has been in a most amazing and veritable spotlight since it was created. It's not even a great game by some standards, it's very short and scratching the basic plot premise of the dialog would hurt the game like crazy. It's more of a tech demo by a small consortium within Valve, it was never meant to even become what it did, but it was found and for that reason one can't say that it was underappreciated.

It is one of the most awarded short games ever made, parts of it became memetic in a flash, pretty much anyone who plays games has played it or at least head of it for a variety of reasons. It is definitely not an underappreciated game, no matter how you want to put it.

You don't need to explain portal to me. You cannot buy portal separately for anything but computer. Believe me I looked everywhere. We are not saying portal is under appreciated. Portal was slightly above average. I could speed run the entire game in about an hour and a half. What we are saying is that the series is under appreciated because Portal 2 may be the best game I've ever played. I nearly had to force my friends to play it and now they love it. Portal 2 was rated highly. Everyone who has played it loves it but once again its sales did no justice to how good the game was which is why it should be considered under appreciated

I'd want to keep arguing about semantics, or my view on them in this case, but it would just be a waste of time. If you believe that it was underappreciated, I'll let it fly, Portal is too good in any case to be bickered over like this and I agree, Portal 2 as a single experience is one of the best things ever created.
