Bootfitter Questions

Hello everyone, I'm considering going to a bootfitter for my next pair of boots because everyone always raves about them and how a properly fitted boot is 100x better than a "park" boot. Anyways my questions I have for you is will a "normal" boot absorb landings just as well as say full tilt, spks, or dalbellos, or any other boot advertised to absorb shock? Also, I really love the 6 flex of my FT Classics this year, what if I was fitted into a boot that was too stiff or to soft? They can't really change that can they? Do I just ask for a boot with relatively the same flex? All help is much appreciated!

No boot on the market will deel with all compresions. Your foot works like a natural spring, the archs strech to help compress load. To aid in this you can get footbeds which support your arch which will help you control forces through your foot.

With a good footbed any boot will work well weather it be a race boot or a "park" boot. So rather then worrying about the boot and the fit of said boot, go get your feet fitted with some good footbeds. If you don,t know a good boot fitter, come see me in whistler, your feet will thank you.

Tell the bootfitter what you have been riding in, and any thing you really liked or didnt like about them. My boots for the past 2 or 3 seasons have been lange race 120, a stiff narrow boot. I cant stand soft boots, and I have a AA width size 13 foot and they just happen to fit like money. I love them, even more than my old hot doggers. Its all personal preference. Dont EVER get a boot b/c it looks cool or twall has them or NS says to. Remember a new boot should be tight in the shop, its going to gain at least a 1/2 size as the liner packs. You can always make a boot bigger, cant shrink it down.

One more thing, FOOTBEDS. Even if they are $35 superfeet trim to fits, they make a world of difference!

Wait, wait, how is a park boot not a fitted boot, and vice versa?

My SPKs have footbeds, shell mods over a bone spur, heel lifts and a couple of minor liner punches to get them fitting like a glove.

They're a "park" boot, and we've spent a good few hours at the shop making them fit me just right. Are they not, hence, a fitted park boot?

Likewise my friend has Nordica Dobermans, I think the flex is around 130, traditional 4-buckle stiff-as-steel boot and he rides park all day in them with no problems.

What I'm trying to get at, is that a so-called park orientated boot like an SPK or FT can be fitted just as well as a more traditional boot. And which ever you're buying, you should be going to a bootfitter anyway.

If you go to a bootfitter. They will put you in a boot that is best for your foot/size/what you plan to do.

Make sure you go to a reputable one though... Dick's, Sport Chalet... and so forth are not bootfitters. Just do a search of US top ski bootfitters, you should be able to find one close enough.

Another thing to keep in mind, a good shop will let you demo the boot you want to purchase and in most cases, the cost of demoing will be applied to your purchase. A lot of places will give you some free adjustments and so forth as well.
