Need Some Boots

Hey NS,

So I finally realized it's time to grow up and abandon wearing skate shoes and look a little more professional. Seeing as how my knowledge of footwear is limited, what are some practical, yet somewhat classy boots to wear? Looking mainly for something in the rain or snow, cooler temps; and an alternative to my hiking boots (don't want to wear them out walking miles around my college campus on pavement).

I will explain all you ever need to know. I have many pairs and wear them with everything, just about all the time, even with shorts in the summer.

Clarks. I have one pair of the sand colored suede desert boots from Jcrew, and one pair of brown full grain leather desert boot style from Clarks. They are both classy in the extreme, but minimalist and very understated. They look good with everything, and the suede boots are reallllly comfy.

either or will be fine for what you need. the brown would probably be a little easier to dress around though.

if you want boots, then go with clarks DBs as suggested above, or the Red Wing Heritage series or Wolverine 1000 mile series.

However, I'd recommend you pick up a suede derby if you want something thats way more versatile than a boot and still youthful while more mature than a skate shoe/sneaker. from a company like walkover. go through nordstrom, great return policy.

Not a boot, but in a casual environment where you can get away with a shoe like them, these cannot be beat:

Insanely supportive on the foot. Gore-Tex keeps your feet dry if you are walking through snow or out on a rainy day. Color scheme is neutral. Little pricey, but if you wear them every day, your feet will thank you.

I have a pair of clarks and they are by far my favourite shoes. So damn comfortable and they look awesome in any situation.

Nice but aren't they like 400 bucks through jcrew JD? Or can you buy them somewhere else for cheaper? I could buy boots forever. Next on the boot list, red wing rugged classic from the heritage series

I got some knockoff clark boots like the first ones posted. Classy as hell, yet can be worn with jeans. Ive gotten tons of comments from the ladies too! Comfy as hell too.

You can find them cheaper, but not much, on ebay and forums, 300-350 is about what you'd be likely to get them for new. And it'd be hard to find your size. 400 is a goddamn bargain for them though. Think about what you're generally paying for leather boots. Take your red wing heritages - Gentleman Travelers run about $330 anyway. If you buy reasonably cheap, you're still looking at $150, and then in 4 years you need new boots. Meanwhile, if you Buy Aldens, 20 years down the road they'll be good as new (they'll need a resole, but just send them in and get them refurbished).

My Indy's are 3-4 years old now and will look the same in another 3-4.

tretorn highlander vinter- good cold weather boot with a sneaker sole. i have the light tan ones and i am super happy with them. incredibly comfortable and came with brown laces i swapped out that i think look better.

Also look around for sperry chukka's. I personally prefer the bahama chukka's because, again, they have a sneaker sole.

Mm true. I do however need the rugged classics for winter first, before any other boot purchases.

I have an eye out for those other Red Wings that are Nordstrom's? exclusives. I can't remember the name either, pretty tall though. Right up my alley.
