Con: Smells like shit, garbage everywhere

A really small town, New Hartford, Connecticut.

I'm from Farmington, CT... & I'm doing 2 months in nyc this summer. Going for either an internship for Fashion Marketing at Saks or to work. I'm there every other weekend basically.

Jobs: In the summer, not that easy unless you know people. If you're trying to work at a high scale boutique such Bape, Y-3, etc... forget about it. No chance unless you have connections. Cafes or smaller chain shops such as American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, etc.. then possibly

Apartments: Simply put, not cheap. Depending on what you're looking for, & seeing it's only you two, then about $3,500 a month for rent. BUT, that depends on your location. You wont find an apartment in tribeca or soho for that much. Also, know if you want a furnished or unfurnished one. Furnished will cost more. It's best to just search around online.

Cost Of Living: Transportation is easy so no need for a car. A metrocard will set you back $110 i believe for unlimited rides. Get a bike too if you'd like. Food isn't much more expensive than everywhere else, & I'm talking about grocery store prices. Restaurants aren't usually cheap, but you can find awesome pizza places that sell pizza for real cheap (i believe it's 51st & 2nd that has a little pizza restaurant where it's $1.50 for a HUGE slice, & I mean HUGE. A Large is only around $10 too.. so not bad at all)

I just think the hardest will be finding a job. I'm going in the summer (not sure when you are), but during that time, all college kids go there to intern & work, so jobs go quick. Same with apartments. If you find one you like & for 100% will be doing it, don't hesitate.

I'm going with 3 other people.. so we will be renting an apartment that costs around $10,000 to $13,000 a month... & in soho most likely. But, that's not way too horrible split between us all. We haven't found one yet, but, like I said.. some stuff can be cheap, some can't.

Would you recommend me finding like a couple more roommates? Would that help? And thanks a lot for that.

how far is the train into the city...I live just under an hour outside the city by train. Train is perfect. Though its kinda expensive now a days if your in the city enough the monthly pass on metro north isn't to bad. NYC is freakin expensive as shit, but very doable if you look for a place in the right location and size.

train ride is about 2 hours, and that's what we're trying to figure out, looking for the right place

Price of apartment varies a lot on location. Uptown is generally cheaper. You can find some good deals in brooklyn. Tons to do, no need for a car, girls are plentiful. However, being in such a large congested city makes doing outdoor activities a little more challenging. I have always been a firm beleiver in moving wherever your heart wants to (grew up in Jersey, college in CO, moved to Hollywood, now live in NYC, likely moving back to CO soon). Even if you don't stay forever, at least you won't be sitting where you live currently still thinking what it would be like to live in NYC. Go for it.

true 2 hours is a kinda far train ride. Mines like 55 minutes and im freakin so anxious to get off the train. Good luck to you mang

I was born and raised in NYC. I live in the east village and i have to say there is nothing like living here.

Cons: NYC.

well there is a ton of good food in nyc, and there is always stuff to do. but on the other hand there is never any real quiet areas, you can always here cars honking and other stuff, you might like that you might not. also traffic is an absolute bitch, and im not sure where the closest ski hill is if you want to live there during the winter.

Pros: Dank food, plenty of chicks, shit tons of things to do, ect.


Cons: tiny ski mountains, shitty winters, everyone's an asshole

I live about 30 min from NYC, I hate going there and I can't wait to get away from the city plus everything is retarded expensive

mobile ns sucks so much...im out of college with a full time finance job and am looking to pay 800 a month maybe 1000 max of course id have to live with other people, maybe im just jelious but dam man girls pantys will be falling of in an apt like that, honesty sorta red. if you ask me for some college dudes or your parents are loaded. you coukd take the train man, im over the hill in pawling from you, 2 hours both ways every day, gotta do what you gotta do

well a 10k-15k apartment, split between 4 or 5 people... not that bad. Plus, I'm saving money now.. Til then, I can save up enough for 2 months of my own rent.. & then i'll work there, so I'll have money

NYC is all pros. I live on the upper west side of Manhattan and I love it here. No other city other than a limited few like San Fran, LA, Paris, and London really compare to it. There is so much culture and so much going on it is a really fun place to live. The nightlife is awesome, and there are always things to do. Everything from the food to clubbing is amazing, but it can be a little pricy. That shouldn't stop you though. Price of living can be tough, but you can always find places for cheap if you really look. My friend who just turned 18 is an investor and he rents out a two bedroom apartment on like 68th and madison. The Public transportation is great too.

Also, the city is really close to a lot of different places. It is not too far from decent skiing, its really close to the hamptons, and the jersey shore for beaching it in the summertime, and with all the airports, trains, and busses that run in and out its really easy to get to where you want to go.

I'm I'm high school and commute to NYC every day. Am I cool? Lol I can't comment on jobs and stuff, but just an idea for a lower cost option would be to move to white plains. Small city, not bad, and only 30 minutes away on metro north.

I'm not planning on living there my entire life.  Maybe a few years, then get out to CO or something, I just wanna experience as much as I can.

haha I know $13.5 is crazy. It is.. I agree. That's on the high side... HUGE apartment with 4 bedrooms.. etc. Getting the money wont be the issue. It's not coming from my parents, but I have money & make money. I'm not one of those 17 year olds who thrives off his parents.

& yes, I do live with my parents & in CT... in a pretty good town, but we're far from rich. NYC is meant to be an experience. 3.5k a month is that bad, when you think how much a trip to Spain or somewhere will cost you for 2 weeks for vacation.

The rent is also a short term 2 month rent. It's not permanent. & I'm not out of touch with how much money that is. I know how much money that is. Trust me. 13.5k is on the high side. we're looking at a 10k one & 8k ones also.. nothing is set in stone. I just tossed out figures regarding what we were looking at
