a bunch of us made a strong push for LSM even though he wasn't a finalist. kid's got vision that wasn't like any of the other contestants, nor any skiers i've seen today. fucking pumped that he's now a part of the crew.

quoted for truth. my vote was with dom, but LSM is a great addition to the L1P crew. if you haven't seen his 2011 season edit, then dont say a word.

Can you explain a bit more why you think hes a better fit for level 1 compared to Austin, Bealieu or Dom? I think alot of us want to know more about this decision? Not really hating just curious?

you are hating based on your reply to the other thread. if you can eat taco bell and do every trick he can, then why the fuck didn't you submit an entry?

its not about submitting the most jaw dropping entry. it's not about having all of the tech tricks. it's about being entertaining and fun to watch. LSM seems like an incredibly forward thinking individual, and his control, fluidity, and creativity left me wanting to see more from the kid. most of all, he looked like he was more fun on his skis than any other entry, and that is hands down the most important thing in my book.

Ya I went a little overboard on the other thread. I just felt like Lucas didnt have any tricks really blew me away, and he wasnt as smooth, tech or stylish as some of the other skiiers in my opinion and for that reason he was much less fun to watch. I also have friends that submitted edits so I definitely have a bias.

Anyways, I appreciate your answer and after hearing what you, and some of the other level 1 guys had to say I guess I understand why he was picked. And im definately happy for the guy.


Also , I actually am putting together an edit for next year (mostly shots from blackcomb HL and whistler backcounty from a trip I did in march) maybe ill throw in some shots of some burritos too haha.

As you gain more maturity as a skier, you'll slowly begin to understand why some riders are more entertaining to watch than the others, and it has nothing to do with technicality or amplitude (well, not directly related to). Its how the rider can put his skiing as a piece of art, whether its by expressing himself or through experimentations.

thanks dude, I watched It and there were some really sick shots in it, im kinda suprised he didnt put some of those shots in the superunknown edit .

Hes obviously a really talented skier and seems like a funny dude who would be cool to ski with, but he didnt have any shots of really big features, gnarly urban or backcounty which would make it into a level 1 flick . Whereas Dominic s video could have easily made a full part in a level 1 movie , and a fucking banger one at that . So i guess thats where I was coming from.

I agree, while he seems like a good skier, I just can't see him hitting super park features or keeping up to the rest of the crew on urban. Dom or Ross should of won in my mind. Both have been killing it under the radar for years and their edits could have been banger parts in a movie already.

Not to mention he wasn't even in finals.

Actually at the time I thought Logan didnt really deserve to win, but the shots hes had in the last two level 1 movies were awesome, and I cant wait to see more from him. I guess that kinda proves level 1 might know a little bit more then me and you.

Last year’s Superunknown XIII winner Sig Tveit had this to say: “Honestly my pick out of all of them would be Lucas Stål-Madison. In my opinion I think he is the rider who would have the most to give Level 1. He definitely offers some creativity and different flavor that has been unseen for the Level 1 viewers, and viewers of any other production company in that matter.”

Parker White: “Lucas has completely his own style and seems like a hilarious kid, he’s really got something unique going on with his skiing. My Vote is Lucas.”

Phil Casabon: “It’s hard (to pick a winner since the) talent pool is so deep. My favorite is not a finalist but I think has most flavor and uniqueness out of all- Lucas Stål-Madison.”

Ahmet Dadali: “I thought he was ill man- from the moment I saw it I said there’s something different with this guy that keeps my eyes on the computer screen. So many entries were ill, but Lucas brought his own style into the mix.”

Mike Hornbeck: “LSM’s Superunknown entry was a video that I re-watched a couple times and it still left me wanting to see more. His style, edge control, and his tricks are all so dialed, and you can really tell he knows what he is doing because there isn’t any pizza in his video.”

umm, so next year we should remember that everyone from honorable mention also can be picked as a winner. sweet.

although i think that LSM was a good pick, i think level 1 should've done a better job in the process of selecting the finalists.

This.... you kids act so damn entitled, this is Level 1's contest and they are going to do whatever they want. Berman and crew don't owe any of you shit so stop the pissy match. In an industry moving quickly towards the Olympics and the mainstream we should just be stoked that a major company still places priority on style, individuality, and fun. Congrats to LSM!

definitely enjoyed watching that kid's edit, but i can't say that he was the clear cut winner to me in any way. he had a lot of cool and creative stuff for sure, and there's nothing wrong with sacrificing some level of technicality in order to do unique and stylish tricks, but a ton of what he did could be done by many kids that i ride with regularly, and i even feel like i could do some of it (i.e. shifty blind 2s on small flat rails, jumping over down rails, etc.), which is not a good thing. the winner of superunknown doesn't need to have the hardest tricks if they have style, but most of what they do should still be well above the skill level of the average good park skier imo, and i don't feel like that was necessarily the case (barring his jumps in the beginning which were pretty sick).


hopefully level 1's decision pans out because he does some sick stuff, but this video wouldn't have inspired enough confidence in me to choose him as the superunknown winner.
