Dub cork 7, possible after all!

ive just heard that the first ever dub cork 7 was landed today at JOI. preformed by Frej Jönsson from sweden. Really stoked for a vid, who else is? here in this edit you can se how he did the dub 9 yesterday at practice: Progression is on its right way if you ask me, thank god for pushing skiing in this direction Frej!! /jeppe

I'm ignorant about doubles, so be kind, but could someone explain to me why people thought the dub cork 7 wasn't possible? What are the mechanics of the trick that made it seem impossible. and what did Frej do to overcome this? now that he's done it is soomething that all the other pros are gonna be able to pick up immediately or does it take a special skill set that only a limited number of pros have?

It's stupid but try flipping your phone or something and notice how it always wants to spin. It's pretty much impossible to do a cork 3 with it. Even on a trampoline cork 3's are super rare because you really need to carve to get it right. Being able to do that twice in a row is just amazing.

It's like there's a sweet spot to spinning corked. 7's are the easiest because they come around so naturally. 9's just require a little more spin. 10's don't come around naturally so you usually have to open mid way to get a little more rotation in.

I don't think more pros are going to start throwing dub cork 7's like Frej. It's not like he's adding extra flips/spins to an already existing trick. You can tell because the first 3 isn't a true cork 3. You really have to be composed and set it just right. To me it's like PK's double wobble corks. A few other people have done them but noones gotten them nearly as good as PK.

Pardon me for being another ignorant fool (old fart)...but how come no more pros do this kind of carved spins in the comps? Is about the judging (=spin-to-win?) or are those just million times more risky to do?

IMHO Frej should have won with that style - in the finals no other carved from the take off (to me the take offs look like "mogul skier" ones...I know I know the jump is enormous and taking off straight, wide legged and from the inside edges is much more stabile). Still, in snowboarding this kind of spins are the norm - and still look super cool, after all the years.

Pollard (and all the Nimbus guys) have done this kind of threes and five for ages...they still kind of stand out for the normal "park style" with that laid back style((approach). IMHO it is really cool iif this kind of thinking gets more mainstream?

I remember seeing a vid not too long ago of Jossi doing carved out dubs. I agree they're so much sicker but probably way harder. And this is just a guess but for skiers who train on water ramps you can't carve into a jump. So wouldn't have had any practice carving into the jump when they take it to snow

. It is such a sick trick, and that dude made it look so legit. It is basically a sick flat three (not the ones a lot of kids say they throw today which are basically off axis back flips.) He flattens right the fuck out.So, yeah he does a sick flat 3, starts to come out a little after 3 and turns into a cork 3. A fucking spread out cork 3 just floating through the air like a fucking bald eagle. So yeah its is a flat 3 all dope to a cork 3 that you come out of steep and scary all dope as well. Great fucking trick, I love it

I think it has to do with speed and all that junk, especially in something like the x games where the jumps are so close, you don't really have much time to set up for a carve like that.
