New Video - Short Documentary

We had to do an autobiography assignment for our videography class and I wanted to do something that shows all of the fun things I like to do while in college. I was kinda going for a sort of "ironic" approach because I really never study at all. Anyway any feedback or critiques would be awesome. There is even some average skiing in this one lol!

The one thing for me that made me seperate from this film was the staged scenes. to me its looks like your trying to make it look real so, those scenes make me wonder if what hes saying in the interview about himself is actualy real.

My personal style would have been to completely exagerate everything in the staged scenes like that conversation. This way it would be this hypothetical alter state. I would shoot it with extremely distorted wide angles. extreme close ups, rapid camera movements just to make it look almost silly. So its sort of his imagination going off.

Thats my take on it though.

on the technical side of things, generally it looked good. Only thing: watch out for clipping in your highlights during the golf scenes.

thanks for the feedback and yeah i see what your saying with like the interviews and what not. I was actually thinking this as I was going, about making it much more exaggerated more obviously fake, like cutting in "goofier," more nerdy sort of events, then i ended up sticking with the serious feel but kinda realized that probably no one outside of my friends would get the gist of the joke quite as much as someone who knew that i didn't study like that at all. but i agree with what you were sayin definitely

I thought it was awesome. Felt that the shots could have been faster paced and such. with more camera movement. A dolly shot or 7 would have been dope for the golf scenes to go with the skiing shots. Like a fast montage of you thwacking balls off tees and with drivers - capturing the sound of the club more (that's what most people associate with golf, anyways - the sounds as well as sights). Drumming scenes were set up perfect.

I was confused about the computer shots though. Should have shown a spot or two of you rocking out with headphones and moving shit around in logic (or whatever program you were using there)

Ultimately, I thought it was cool and fun to watch. I plan on making something similar to this in the future just for a fun project.

I liked that alot. Liked the transitions and the colors were on point.

Also, props for playing the nike victory reds haha. tough iron to play.

i agree with the dolly and some of the pacing stuff. i really want to get a slider and i think that would have helped the golf shots a lot instead of just on the tripod.

i actually did have a shot on the computer where you could see me on logic with all the meters and levels going but i was trying to teach my dad how to use the glidecam that day so it wasn't the best shot. but i still might replace the one thats in there cuz there are a few mistakes overall.

but it was really fun to make probably the most fun out of most of my videos yet haha, i recommend doing a self project. you will definitely enjoy it.

ha thanks! i love those irons, i've had some awesome shots with them...but then ive also had my fair share of bad ones while getting used to them haha

Hahaha that was awesome bro. Like above, maybe a few dolly or slider shots would have been good and that thing about rocking out to the computer would be mean.

You should have just got a dude who had a golf cart that day to let a friend sit in and roll past you as you thwacked. Just have him drive at a slow pace with no herky jerkyness and you can get it pretty steady. Especially with a monopod or something. I've used the back of a pickup truck with sponges taped to the bottom of a tripod as a dolly before, so it can be utilized well.

Yeah, if you had more shots of the computer, maybe an over-the-shoulder shot and perhaps a reverse medium closeup shot of the computer screen reflecting back on your face, that would have been the dopeness.

Overall though, I love the concept

thanks again and that is actually a pretty good idea, it would be easy in a golf cart as well. ill have to give that a try later this summer
