FCP help...

due to my lack of editing this year i seem to run into some sort of problem everytime i use fcp.
i made a edit everything is good to go but when i exported the video it was square...

my sequence settings are:

HDTV 720p
square (box beside is checked)
None
23.98
Prores 422


so what im asking is what can i do to get it back to normal size if anything

First of all, ProRes isn't a finishing codec. It's made for ingestion for editing. Export h.264, which is a great finishing codec (its bad rap comes from the fact that finishing codecs are not meant to be used for editing!)

Second, try doing a custom aspect ratio as 1280x720 w/ square pixels.

Third, what program are you using to compress?

no matter what i do it still shows up as a square video just resized

but ive been exporting in prores then compressing into the recommended youtube codec in compressor

are you sure youre not just referring to the render quality? just do what Will said and export h.264

If you've already tried exporting with 'current settings' and it was still a problem, than your sequence settings got messed up. Did you conform sequence settings to match clip settings when before you started editing? You can check your sequence settings by right-clicking Sequence 1 (or whichever sequence our final edit is) and looking at the resolution. If it doesn't say that it's 720p, it doesn't match up and you won't get a video with the proper res no matter which export settings you use.
I don't know if this is your issue, but when I kept getting messed up export settings, that's what I traced the problem back to. As far as fixing the problem, I haven't found anything yet that isn't starting over. When I tried to just edit the sequence back to the original clip settings, It just letterboxed but the actual video size didn't get fixed. So before you try any other export settings, check the sequence settings. Sorry I don't have an actual solution. If anyone does have a solution to the problem I described, I'd love to hear it. Good luck, hopefully it will work out.

yeah everything was conformed at first, i still dont understand what happened but i think its because i had that box checked beside the 720 hdtv selection. when i unchecked the box the viewer went to what it normally looks like but the video was square. so ya, i think as you said my best bet is starting over at this point.

so in fcp how do i go about getting the best quality from my Go Pro when it is set on r3?

I feel like an idiot but i have been doing all those things but my biggest problem was getting it onto the web and now i think i got that figured out. +kkk
