if he wants the head only, unless you have found one used
the 717ah tripod kit is pretty popular for a cheap tripod, and it uses a bowl. It won't be amazing and it won't last forever, but they can be found for around $150 (type 717 tripod into ebay)
also, if you want to know more budget filming things, check out cheesycam.com
What camera/lenses are you shooting with? For $150 your not going to be able to get a legs/head setup, yours will be attached, the latter is more expensive but it makes upgrading easier and they tend to be built better and last longer; if something breaks you don't have to replace both.
damn thanks for all the help I'm going to norway for the summer i have the 18-55 lens kit and a 70-300 and I just need something to get some cool shots with low shutter speeds and maybe some nature shots with some tilt I've been looking at this has anyone ever had experience with this one?
Hate to say it, but you're going to have a really hard time getting smooth shots at those focal lengths with a cheap tripod. The first year I owned my 70-200 it sat around collecting dust because all I had was a 501 head with 055xb legs.
so your saying that the one suggested looked shitty i don't have that much money and only have a month until i leave for norway for 3 months and everything is way overpriced over there
Surveying legs can be found at your local hardware store, and the 717 is all over the internets under various brand names. The legs can be relatively heavy, but that's the price you pay for good footage; you can also find lightweight aluminum ones with minimal flex. Thin legs like the Manfrotto ones posted above have so much bounce they it's useless for any focal length past 70mm on a large-sensor camera.
No, I'd stick to a more well known brand and if you can hold/use before you buy, it really comes down to the weight/feel of a tripod with your camera on it and a picture on the internet can't tell you that. I'm assuming your doing video as well but if your doing photo you don't need legs like that.
this is the one that is recommended by cheesycam, and to clarify, it is not perfect, its the best under $200, which is considered next to nothing as far as tripods go
Anything that says "professional" in the title is likely to be crap.
Having said that, the best you can do on your budget is the head alone with some surveying legs. Those ones look like they will break pretty easily, whereas surveying legs are made to stand up to the abuses of construction zones.
