Where to live around Tahoe?

Im moving out to the tahoe region from new jersey for a semester next year from january til around may, but need help deciding where to live. What are the best places to live in the area in terms of distance to the better resorts around the area, part time job availabilities, scenery, social life, etc.? Ive only looked into south lake tahoe so far since Heavenly is supposedly the biggest resort there and I'd rather work at a resort as opposed to finding a job elsewhere in the area. And by best resorts in the area I mean best overall(skiable acres, park, backcountry, lift lines, being able to ski at other neighbor resorts with a season pass, etc).

It matters where you want to ski. South shore/northshore. Two totally differnent riding/nightlife/ people expeciainces

South Lake has the most going on. Now with Kirkwood part of the Heavenly Northstar pass the skiing is catching up.

I'm doing what you're talking about doing right now... unfortunately I go back home to Wisconsin in a little over a month. I'm living in South Lake with a couple friends and I absolutely love it. If it snows, I shred Kirkwood... they get some of the most/best snow in the Tahoe area and there's super fun and challenging terrain. If it's a park day I drive 2 minutes to heavenly or occasionally I make the 1 hour trip to Northstar. Both resorts have sick parks which will probably put most east coast parks to shame. Kirkwood's park is probably going to improve a lot with Vail owning it now. The nightlife in South Lake is also pretty sick... lots of music, especially if you're into dubstep. Job's can be hard to come by in any ski town, but south lake isn't too bad from what I hear. I saved money before I came out here though so I didn't have to worry about job hunting.

I prefer living in Truckee due to the amount of resorts in the area surrounding it. Sugar Bowl, Squaw, Alpine, Boreal, Northstar.

I've lived in south lake for almost 4 years now and am about to make the move to north lake for next season.... I've loved living down here, kirkwood heavenly and Sierra are all really fun mountains, and the nightlife is definitely the best in Tahoe. I'm heading up to north lake for a change of pace and to get some new experiences. Either way you go, it's definitely better than the east coast haha

I would go ahead and say north shore all the way. Kings beach is cheap and has a lot of meth and mexicans, between Kings Beach and Tahoe City has some housing that is super nice and in between northstar and squaw/alpine. Tahoe City/Squaw as stated previously is the most fun and super nice, closest to squaw/alpine. I personally would love to live in Squaw but it's too far from SNC (in Incline Village) Living in Incline is ok, a few bars around and the college is there, but like I said, I would want to live on the california side of North Shore.

South Shore has probably the most going on, sick concerts, more tourists roaming around, more of a city feel (kind of I guess, casinos, more buidings, more of a "strip") But heavenly is lame hahah

what about season pass deals? i only know of the heavenly/kirkwood/northstar season pass but are there other cheap passes like that where i can ski at a lot of other resorts around the area?

I moved to tahoe in Oct. for the season. Work at Squaw everyday.

Read that Truckee was the place to go... moved here with some buddies.

we hate truckee-There are a few bars and "beat the clock" tuesday nights. But it sucks ass. We count down the days to move elsewhere. Oh yeah, hope you like hanging out with dudes!

Move to Tahoe city, west shore, kings beach, carnelian bay.... anywhere on the water if you want to be N shore.

I think it really depends on who you hangout with. I moved to Truckee in October as well, but I moved up by myself not knowing anyone and I've had a lot of fun. Guess it depends what you're into as well. Oh, and there are plenty of girls.

Haha true... I can't remember who said it but the girls in Tahoe are like parking spots, all the good ones are taken and then rest are handicapped

tahoe is great and all, but you will probably have a new appreciation for NY after you've been here for a bit. While I love living in tahoe, there are certain things that I seriously miss about the east specifically the Boston area.

it's mainly a bunch of little things that add up(the food, grass, rain, the people). And i don't meant to dishearten you from coming out here, as it's something you should totally experience for yourself.

how should my friend and i go about getting a job out there? did you guys apply online of wait till you were out there to? Just trying to get some input so we can start figuring out how we are gunna make this happen.

apply online na dgo to the job fairs.  Make sure you get there early if you go to job fair sometimes they hire everybody they need and there are still tons of people waiting in line.
