What do you use for audio?

I have seen a lot on here about lenses and cameras that people use, and I was wondering what people are using for audio? Any examples, likes/dislikes, etc. would be great also. I have seen some recent edits with great audio (eheath), and I am looking partly for ideas for when I plan on purchasing some gear this summer, partly just out of curiosity

I fooled around with audio recorders during pre-season and just had a really hard time trying to get them to work for what i was doing. So now I use a beacktek adapter (dxa-4p) and an Azden SGM-1x (not the best, but it works) hooked up to it. I have a dead cat on mine (dubbed the grey squirrel) and those help a ton.

i just got a rode VMP, haven't used it on the mountain yet but i used it today for a grad video and it seems pretty good. i really want to pick up a deadcat for when i bring it to the mountain.

used mine today on the mountain, i have a deadcat for it as well but didn't put it on for some reason, but i was actually really surprised how well it did. of course follow cams on jumps got a bit windy, but next time im definitely gonna put it on

anyone by chance have or used a audio-technica AT875? I've been looking at the audio technica mics for a while and this mic happened to pop up as a kit a few days ago on b&h, considering snagging that and a deadcat to replace the shitty CAD handheld i've been using for the past couple months.

I just use this sony shotgun mic that came with my camera. I think whats key for skiing is the deadcat.

I have made a couple dope ski/snowboard videos in my day but whenever I upload them to youtube the audio gets removed because of some copyright nonsense. Thank god I stopped shredding to music I couldn't share legally after finding the holy grail of ski music. http://www.filthyslaps.com is about the chillest website there is... All of their music is free and legal to share and use... Now all my videos are getting tons of hits (probably because of the dope music in the background) and all my friends are impressed. The website also has dope music to ski or board to as well. I've sent them my videos, I sent it to info@filthyslaps.com, and they quickly replied saying if I give them a shout out in the next one they will post it on the site! Too chill...

I use a video mic and have no complaints. Like Heath said, the key is the deadcat. My biggest problem with it is how it acts as a "sail" on a glidecam and wind then pushes the rig all over the place

this happens to me already because my rig is so light, I may start ignoring the drop time thing, or at least adding weight to the top and bottom. Should help once I get my battery grip and a few other things also.

And to landis, I never got a vmp, I am looking at either that or an mke 400. Was leaning towards the mke 400, but it looks like the rode may be a little better. I heard some people prefer the shock mount on the mke, and it has much better battery life

Huh, thought it was you. Maybe it was Plorr. Damn P-names.

I've heard the VMP is overkill for the GH2 because the +20 is useless with the GH2's auto gain. I keep hearing people say the VM is more suitable (and $100 cheaper), but it's so damn monstrous. I think the smaller size of the VMP is what's making me want it. It just hurts spending over $200 on an on-camera mic when I could put that towards a hypercardiod + boom + tascam setup.

I'm really thinking about picking up the H1... anyone want to convince me otherwise before I make the purchase. I've researched it a good amount and I want a mic that I can use with a tripod stand as well as shotgun'd on my cam. I know that some of the other mics are better but I don't feel like I need all of the options they offer. I more or less just want a simple solution to good audio that is very flexible (interviews, shotgun style, etc.)

i know that feel.. i have a sennheiser mke 400 micro with the deadcat and i love the sound, you can hear everything, but my glidecam gets pushed around a lot too when i do follow cam or it's windy out
