SATs are bunch of BULLSHIT

The SAT does not even test for intelleuct or intellegrnce. All the SAT is testing for is test taking skills. I know bone stupid people whose parents pulled out a loan for classes so they can get a 2200. Meanwhile have D's in all classes. I got a 1460.(hoping for at least 1650) Im not very happy with this right now and am quite upset with the system. Does anybody have some actually helpful tips for when I retake?

If you have all D's in your classes, you probably have alot more to worry about than your SAT scores. If you want to go to college, you might wanna step up.

focus on the math and "english"...the writing is pretty much worthless to most colleges. take them as many time as you can. you can try out different techniques and can find what works best for you. also, get an sat prep book, and start timing yourself doing the sections, that way you work on being rushed and finishing in time. good luck! sat's are a fucker...also, take the act!

Good lord. Iphone typing.. I do not have all D's.. I wrote that I know people that have grades like that in school but score good on SATs. Im taking trig, AP bio, AP euro history, CHS Pyschology, Honors english, robotics, and spanish 4. I have Bs in all my AP and CHS classes. A's in the rest..

Maybe grades don't really matter, but true intelligence shows through to the SAT.

Any one can take "hard" classes in high school, just do the work, it's easy.

Fucking A. Writing was always my strong point. Definitely focus more on English because like said earlier, colleges could care less about writing scores. To get into nursing, I had to have a combined math and reading of 900.

test absolutely do not show intelligence. test results can relate to intelligence, but to have a test that would actually be indicative of your intelligence would be near impossible. And it certainly wouldn't be a test on just language and math skills.

SAT's and grades are no way to tell if someone is smart or not. Your right it is a bunch of bullshit, but if you have really good grades and are taking AP classes colleges will excuse mediocre SAT scores.

ahh the SATs frustrate me.
I took them in november for the first time without even preparing at all and i got the same score as i did when i took the march one. I put so much effort into preparing for the march one, three weeks straight of doing the stupid sections and it didnt even help.

take them again and buy a prep book beforehand and actually do work. the rich kids only have expensive tutors because they wouldn't be motivated to study without somebody else telling them to

You can either continue bitching about it, or accept that you are aren't smart enough and/or have bad test taking skills and need to work on it. Stop blaming everyone else, there aren't a whole lot of scholarships being handed out for that and your current attitude won't get you anywhere.

SATs suck. just take it again, i bumped my score up like 200 points just by re-taking it and opened up a lot more doors for a lot more schools. yeah they're outdated and a bunch of bullshit but the fact is you need good scores to go to the schools of your choice. if you say that they don't adequately measure intelligence than theoretically anyone can get a great score if they just put in a little practice and effort. just swallow your pride, study up and take it twice you'll feel much better applying to schools with a 2100 than a 1650.

I would argue that I'm naturally pretty intelligent and I got a 2160 on the SATs without preparing (aside from taking the PSATs). Just retake them. That's what I'm doing. First try I got an 800 in Crit. Reading, 690 in Math, 670 in Writing. It's a really good score, but I'm not too happy with the math...I'm currently in AP Calc BC so I basically fucked up numbers and operations because I forgot all of that stuff. Seriously though, you just need some practice. From what I've heard, it isn't too difficult to improve a math or writing score if you're pretty smart and have time to do practice problems. And like you said, some people aren't that great at taking tests. All you can do is try your best. There's no point in beating yourself up over some stupid test. Yes, it is important, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter.

just buy the sat book And practice doing a test all the way through, what kills me is the length. oh and learn lots of SAT vocab words and brush up on algebra and geometry. and tutoring is a bunch of bs my friend got tutored and i got a higher score than she did and i did everything on my own...not worth the money.

this all the way. high school classes, no matter what, are not hard. people were all like, "oh, AP chem was hard but i still did it." AP chem was shit and taught almost nothing and was just a ton of work. go into school as a chem major and you'll see. inb4 college chem compared to high school chem is unfair, thats exactly the point i'm making.

that aside all those kids with straight A's in hard classes that can't actually do anything with their knowledge are going to do bad on SAT's. application is everything.

Practice tests, practice tests, practice tests. Do a test section every night, timed. The types of problems they use never change, they just modify the wording - start noticing what you are consistently getting wrong and just leave those blank, work on stuff you can get. Doing less work and working through the test smarter usually increases your score, every wrong answer hurts you. I taught SAT's for Princeton Review when I was in college, if you have a specific question, ask!

overall it doesnt matter what college you go to basically, unless its harvard or yale...etc then its just bacically for networking but buddies, i had friends at college who went to 30k private school, public schools and even a freind who.when to a rehab highschool, get a few internahips in college or a few jobs related to gour major, build up yout reseme regardless of where you go and youl be fine dont stress the sats in 10 years its not going to effect you

Dude, I never wrote them, but it seems like a supidly easy test.

First of all test taking ability is important for university. Second the material on this test seems to be so stupidly easy that you could ace it with very little effort. I literally blew through a practice math portion with no calc in like 10 mins.

You can't blame the success of others on their parents spending money for them to take a practice course. You could have gone to chapters, bought one of the dozens of SAT guides, and aced the test...

I wish I had actually tried in HS as far as grades are concerned- my sat scores are what got me into a bunch of colleges- if I had the gpa the $$$ would've been there as well- instead im paying for all of this shit

For math, where answers aren't subjective, they're valid, but in critical reading you can make a valid argument for more than one answer. I'm not very good at math multiple choice tests because I zone out and fuck up signs and stuff. Im not saying this because I didn't do well on my standardized tests. I have legitimate reasons to think they're bullshit.

I got a 220 on my PSAT and a 33 composite on my ACT, so yes, I'm in dat 1%.

I wrote them for the lols and got 1990: 700 reading 730 writing and 560 math. Apparently that was the bare minimum to get in to Brown.

that only applies if you believe in psychobabble. also relevant is how people attribute success internally, like you, and the op attributes failure to external factors, like the system. it's highly unlikely that either of your scores reflect your true intelligence because we don't know how to measure that yet, if ever.
