Why goggles with flat lenses?

Lately you see more and more people with O-Frames and other goggles with flat lenses, especially pros who ski park. Why would they do this? From what I've found, the strain your eyes a lot more than spherical.

Goggles with spherical lenses are pre-formed into a shaped.  They do not flex very well.  If your face is not the proper shape to fit them, you get gaps.  Specifically over the bridge of your nose.

I have a large head.  Spherical lenses do not fit me, so I wear the Smith Fuse.  And they're really inexpensive, so I can own four or five pairs in different frame colors and lens tints.

Cheaper to replace lenses, cheaper to buy, more flexible, I don't give a fuck if spherical lenses give you slightly "more precise optics" or unnoticeably strain your eyes.

That's why I wear them anyway, and cause they fit me perfectly.

With my Scott Fixes, I feel like I'm not wearing anything. But with my crappy Anon goggles with flat lenses, my eyes hurt after a while.

The price of flat lenses is definitely a plus though.

honestly probably this.

Kids wear them cause they're cheap. Or maybe because apparently all the pro's do now. didn't notice.

This, and I prefer to use cylindrical lenses for night skiing because the reflection from the lights isn't as bad.

most likely this is right. all the beginner park skis and low end models have to be used by pros. when i was at camp, will wesson was on "masterminds". i talked to him and he said they were actually chronics with the mastermind graphic. they do this with skis i know, not sure if they do with other stuff. with the goggles i'd guess that's what it is. or it's just cheaper to replace when they break them going ham all day.

for some reason or another its more so the norm in racing to wear flat lens goggles. Don't know why, but it goes to show that different products appeal to different markets.

my friend that races told me one time that the flat lens tends to have a bigger peripheral because it can dip down further on your checks (bigger height from the bridge of the nose to the lowest point) without being awkwardly shaped. Look at the POC Retina goggle for a decent example

my electric egb2's have better peripherals than any goggles you'll try. Only exception I've found is VZ fishbowls

agreed... and I'm most likely getting some eg2s next year

but they don't sell well all the time because of people being concerned with helmet compatibility and price

Now that you guys have convinced me that cylindrical are good, I might actually buy those since I need a darker lens goggle.
