So I have recently noticed that when someone replies on a thread and quotes you, there is no knowledge of that happening until you come across the thread again. I know that you can keep threads on watch, but wouldn't it be a tad bit easier and maybe even nicer if you get a notification in your message inbox? Could this be a possible addition to NS.

Notifications have been discussed a lot in this forum. The overriding response is that people don't want NS to be like Facebook. I personally would love notifications for quote replies, pictures, vids, etc, but it looks like it's not gonna happen.

Haha, don't worry, I've taken quite a few vacations. Bad joke. Anyways, I could see how some want to avoid NS turning into the Facebook essence of notifications and what not, is that true?

Would there be any action of somewhat improving the notification system, or would it cause to many complaints and make it look unoriginal?

idk man i mean generally NS has stayed pretty much the same for a long time -- minor changes here and there, added sections, design changes here and there, etc. -- there hasn't been a whole range of drastic changes. basically NS is so unique that people see it being good the way it is, and that it shouldn't really be tampered with too much and thus changing into a facebook for skiing. anyone feel free to quote me if you disagree.

There's actually been probably way more changes than you'd realize. :)
The thing with it is that its right in the middle of those two ideas that is right for NS. We can't do something like rip off the facebook notification system, because it wouldn't work. We also can't stay totally stagnant, as NS was built a long, long time ago and needs tech upgrades to keep more with the times.
What works is taking ideas from popular sites, and applying performance upgrades here and there to overall just improve the experience. MyThreads is good, but I agree that we need more notifications. There's just too much happening on the site now to keep up with it.
I think the answer lies somewhere in an improved MyThreads display, or a notification center which you can customize and is designed to update you on important stuff happening on Newschoolers.
Newschoolers isn't facebook, and it never will be. However, facebook is a very well built website, and as such its important to learn from things they do very correctly.

Thank you for acknowledging this. People don't suggest features similar to features on Facebook just to annoy people here. They do notifications in a unique way--and in a way that works. NS doesn't do notifications--and it doesn't work. There's a middle ground there!
