Ski poles

so im trimmin my poles down a bit and if im about 5'10" how long should they be?? +k for help

Lets let pole size equal P, tall tee size equal T, and height equal H. The equation for poles is represented by P= H - T this will give you the best performance when skiing.

People vary greatly on their wingspan (arm lengths). A 6' guy may need shorter poles than a 5'9' guy with long arms. This is not a question we can answer on the Internet without your wingspan and height measurements. Hold the poles upside down with your hands just under the baskets and get a feel for what is comfortable. Take a little off at a time.

i forgot to mention that the formula wouldnt work if the tall tee exceeds 3/4 of your height

you may be able to just remove a screw and pull, if it sticks then you can try tossing it in a vice and pulling, which is what i did.

Boiling works really well, it just pops off with no effort. And I think for most poles the screw is holding the straps to the grip.

i cut my poles down to where my arms are straight down and the pole barely touches the ground. i find this to be perfect

I just ran my grips under hot water from the faucet and they slipped right off, no need to boil water
