Need advice. Seriously.

I'm really not one to share my feelings, seriously. But this I just can't seem to get off my mind. Every night I can't go to sleep because of this. I'm angry because of this.

Anyway, enough with my antics.

My dream for 8 years has been to ski. Ski for a living. I have looked at my options, as high school is getting close. I want to go to Windells Academy. It means everything to me, everything reminds me of it. I tell my friends, "Oh yeah, I love this place" and they say "Cool". You see, I can't wait till I pull into the concrete jungle, see all the people, and meet new friends. My point is, my parents say "You're not going to Windells Academy." but there is some hope. If you guys just post: "Let justin go to windells" on this thread, you can help me achieve my dream.

seriously though, i know this seems super important now, but if you really want to ski for a living there are a million and one better ways to focus your energy than trying to get the internet to magically convince your parents to spend extra tens of thousands of dollars to get you a high school education. go find a trampoline or build a summer setup and get to progressing

Skiing isn't about going to a camp, or hanging out with pros, or even skiing really. Going pro doesn't come from being taught how to ski, or even being good at skiing really.

When you wake up on a Saturday morning with the sun bright and shining coming through your window, do you say "I wish I was a pro?" Nah homie, you say, damn, I'm gonna call up some friends, and see who wants to shred. You hit the slopes, and you don't have to think, because in that moment, you're right where you need to be. Nothing else matters man, except for hitting that jump and finding the perfect sweet spot, or cutting your edges in the snow and gliding down the mountain.

Stop thinking about this silly idea you need to get sponsored, go pro, and live life large. I'm not saying don't try, but stop thinking about trying. As you progress you'll get better, you'll learn what you like and don't like about skiing. One day you might find yourself submitting a video to your local shop, or maybe standing on a podium with two of your best friends right next to you.

I guess what I'm saying is you'll get there eventually, we all will, just stop trying so hard. Let life guide you and skiing will follow if it means so much to you. Not everybody is going to be a pro, or even be sponsored, but we can all dream.

Those dreams will carry you, whether it be for better or worse.

OP: With how retarded you are, you couldn't even get into Windells, let alone prosper there. Let alone get into college afterwards. Let alone get a job after that. Let alone go pro cause Windells won't have you doing doubles after 1 year. Show some promise, get a sponsor (NOT Splice Productions) and apply for a scholarship if you think you have the skills. (Highly unlikely)

I used to be like you and all i wanted to do was ski everyday of my iife all the time. Well guess what bro, I grew up and realized life isnt all candy and gravy. Theres a reason skiing is called a rich white mans sport. Well, because its costs rediculous amounts of money to do for the most part and people that are living pay check to pay check woudnt even think about going skiing.

I don't know how much you ski now (i skied 60+ days a year in high school), work your ass off get good grades, get a good job, and maybe 20 years down the road you can ski much more when you can afford a weekend house. Seriously, skiing is a really expensive thing to do, and generally the people who do it a lot are wealthy people who can afford it. Living the ski bum life isnt for everyone, and gets old fast. IV talked to many ski bums who regret it, some don't though. Its not the glamour it looks like. In a few years you will get over it

Poverty
Blown knee=expensive x2
limited season
short career
no alternative career prospects
tons of injuries resulting in your sponsors dropping you and you living on the street before dying of AIDS and cirrhosis of the liver

The job you really want is editor of POWDER magazine

I hate to say it, but this is true.

I would advise skiing as much as possible where you live, and seeing how good you get.  When you graduate, if you are already making solid money, go for it as a pro skier.  Even then, I would not advise doing that, as most people don't really make much in skiing. 

I would advise going to the University of Utah, or some place like that, and skiing constantly in college.  After that, if you have the opportunities, try to ski for a living. 

I was a ski bum for 5 years, between college and grad school.  During college I skied about 30 days a year.  You can ski a whole lot more than that, if you want to.  I like my life now, I make good money and ski 40-45 days a year.  Next winter, I may be able to heli ski for the first time.  I would rather have a real job in Colorado, Utah, Seattle, or California(requires driving, but still possible to get 40-50 days a year) and  ski every weekend and vacations, than be a ski bum.  Don't get me wrong, I loved ski bumming, and I respect the guys who never left Tahoe, I just realized it was not for me.

You don't want your decisions now to limit you in the future.  If you decide you want to be a permanent ski bum, and work your butt off as a carpenter/contractor all summer so you can ski all winter, more power to you, that's cool.  Like I said, I decided it was not for me, but I respect people who stayed, but you don't want to commit to that now.  You should get an education, THEN decide what to do.

I hate to say it, but the type of life you want is more likely to end up with you as a 35 year old ski bum than a chest full of x-games gold.  Even if you do make it as a pro, most guys don't make much.  For every Shane McConkey/Tanner Hall/CR/Candide, there are tons of guys who absolutely ripped, and barely made anything form skiing.  Seeing yourself working your butt off to ski, and not making any money off of it, is a more likely life than driving a lambo like Jon.

I assume you are around 15, if you are thinking about going to an academy.  I would not make life limiting choices now, you may really regret them later.

Chill the fuck out about your life dreams about becoming pro. We all wish we could but we don't because most of us don't have the skill or determination to get there. You may be thinking to yourself, oh, if I go to Windells they will teach me everything I need and I'll be a pro in no time. After about 2 years you'll stop and think hey, I'm absolutely busting my ass for a career that is not only almost unattainable, but practically nonsensical. They say 1% make 90% of the money in the skiing business, and even that is short money.

When you grow up you'll come to this conclusion on your own anyway but I'll tell you now. You'll have a much more rewarding life getting an education and making a lot of money while skiing in your down time. Why make what you do for fun your job? Professional skiers get where they are because of uncanny natural ability, opportunities they were born into, incredible, obsessive determination, or a combination of the three. Make a living so you can ski, don't ski so you can make a living.

Dude seriously.. I mean we all dream but if you want to live from skiing/freeskiing you would be already at a very good level. Today, if a 16 you can't do some of those SICK tricks, just forget about it and keep it as a passion.

Well i'll tell you what, me too I would have loved to ski for a living but like you and 99% of NS we can't. Since I love filming and cinema stuff, I entered a cinema school in Paris hoping one day to be able to film & ski for a living.

bro you wanna ski a lot? Go to school, get good grades and get a good job. Skiing is a rich white mans sport. Theres a reason you don't see many poor people out there. If you want to ski a lot , realistically, especially from ny, get a good job, and buy a house in vt you can go to on weekends. If not you can bum if thats what your into but i hear its not as glamorous as it sounds
