I agree with this. From a judges perspective the edit is flawless. Technical, well-executed, no flailing. But his skiing doesn't have personality. Sammy has pokes, Pollard has slashes, Henrik has his flow. Goepper hasn't developed his style, he doesn't make the tricks his own. He just executes them successfully.

He's got a solid bag of tricks and a real tight competition style. Enjoyed the edit, but I wouldn't necessarily be stoked to watch a film segment if he was featured in a movie.

To everyone saying, "If he had a tall tee on, you would think he had style.": These kind of sarcastic remarks are getting real old, real fast. If you're really unable to distinguish Goepper's type of skiing from the unique styles exhibited by Wallisch, Martini and Hatveit (I think those were the skiiers mentioned earlier) then you need to pay closer attention. I couldn't pick Goepper's style out of a lineup. What I mean by this is that if he were wearing a different outfit in an edit, I legitimately would not be able to tell you who the skiier was. Meanwhile, if (for instance) Nick Martini released an edit wearing something different, I could watch a few shots, recognize the DISTINCT Martini style and tell you without question who the skiier was.

This is what people mean when they say Goepper's got cookie cutter style. Seriously though, he's a great skiier who throws down pretty consistently. I love watching him compete and the fact that he's so young is sick too.

Great post and completely agree. Style is just one of those subjective things that is hard to quantify. Vinni's edit while less tech tricks has tons of more style and a lot of tricks are original and distinct.

geopper is sick. a really nice kid who is fucking raw at skiing. but the reason i like wallisch over geopper is because wallisch can do all the tricks nick can, 1000 times better. WITH STYLE.

this argument continuously offered where the dipshit says something about "throw him in baggy saga and everyone will love him" is total horseshit. just because you can't discern subtle nuances and differences in people's skiing thay doesn't mean noone can. it is perfectly valid for people to point out that Goepper's style leaves a little something to be desired. doesn't mean that's a universal truth, but there are valid reasons to prefer someone else, and clothing and extraneous bs like afterbang are totally irrelevant. goepper has a tendency to really pre-wind spins with his upper body as well as pencil and throw his arms over his head spinning onto rails. i don't find those things to be aesthetically pleasing and apparently some others agree

Exactly. He is obviously an amazing park rider, there is no argument. I would rather watch Tom Warnick eat shit for half an edit. Others like watching perfectly executed dubs for half an edit. Whether or not you like to watch him ride you have to respect his ability.

Really sick edit imo.
And i'm not definitely saying i like his style best, but hating on any skier because of his/her skiing doesnt make sense. It's their style, doesn't matter how you like it. If you think they're pushing the sport in the wrong direction then be an individual and do your own thing. Got a bit off topic but yeah...

No hate intended, but kid's way overhyped. Chris Laker is just as good as him and much more stylish in my opinion. I would love it if he was the new face of comp skiing, technical maneuvers with individual style.

In my opinion, style is how you do your tricks that makes yourself unique. Goepper is really clean and executes his tricks well but he doesn't have a really distinct stlye.

Being clean = doing your tricks without any flaws

Style = one step above that

This. The really clean and perfect "competition style" gets kinda boring sometimes but is sick nonetheless imo. But as i said, it makes no sense to hate someone based on their skiing.

without a doubt, this kid is a hell of a skier. like unbelievable-one-of-a-kind-holy-cow-this-kid-is-a-good-skier type of skier.

that said, what in the word is with people that they cant come up with any song, out of the hundreds of thousands in the world, other than that one. are these kids just so uninteresting that beyond skiing they have literally zero creative interests? it isnt that difficult to find some music that youre a legitimate fan of. i sincerely hope that this goepper character has some kind of insight to the music world beyond a COLDPLAY song, for christ's sake, that one, sucks, and two, has been played over and over and over on virtually every popular music outlet and beyond for a long time now.

The edit was absolutely amazing. One of the best I've seen in a very long time. The 9.4 rating it has seems way too low. A 9.8 or a 9.9 would be a bit more fair.

However, his competition style is still kind of shitty, and he isn't the nicest person either. I actually talked to him while he was a Breck filming for this (or tried to at least), and he wasn't very friendly. He seemed disinterested and rather annoyed. Not the treatment I get when I approach Bobby or Torin. But whatever, other people say he's nice so maybe he was just in a bad mood that day.

I'm a big fan of Goepper and of the edit. I don't think enough people really appreciate the technicality. His trick are freakin hard. He throws down cleanly and I respect that a lot. As far as style, those 270 off nose/tail taps were some of the nicest taps I've ever seen.

Also, some guys like to write him off because of their judgement on his style. You can't write off a guy who is wrapping up his breakout season. Give this dude time. He just might be the raddest skier on the mountain.

to me there is a difference between a slowed down trick with a good grab, and a trick done with style. Coming from what I previously had seen geopper do that edit was awesome. However I didn't enjoy it as much as maybe some people did because There are tons of skiers who can do all of those tricks with that much fluidity. It just so happens that I think henrik and phil are more fun to watch, not because they wear baggy clothes and have gangsta rap in their edits, but because both of them have style, geopper is smooth, but I still think he has weak style, basically a bobby brown clone. What sets apart true style and geopper's style is the suprise factor. I like nothing better than seeing tricks grabs and ways of riding that are totally new to me and completely creative. I honestly can say that I have seen every trick nick did in that edit, with the exact same grabs in other edits. I still respect geopper and think that this edit was sick, but I'd rather wtch max hill, niklass eriksson, or B&E ski. Style is personalizing or innovating a trick, not stomping everything in a smooth casual manner. Just my 2 cents.

I just wanted to say, that even though I haven't been the biggest fan of Nick's skiing in the past (particularly his comp skiing), I was really impressed by his edit. Just really amazing level of tech and clean-ness...enough that I think the "style" debate is rendered irrelevant. I prefer to watch other skiers personally, but as a fan of skiing, how could you hate on that edit? Shit was money.

Props to Nick and DTF for throwing down a quality edit, and a gauntlet to other guys on his level.

theres a couple of things that people try to tell me that i should like even though i dont. one is nice goepper, and another is coldplay. I cant really pinpoint what i hate about either, only a handfull of things i really dont like about both. funny that they are both included in the same edit

While I definitely enjoyed this edit, and thought it showcased more of his talent than a lot of his comp runs I have seen. It also highlights one of my biggest problems with tricks thrown in competitions and how they are judged (yes, I am very much aware this is an edit made for enjoyment and in no way related to comp skiing.) That is the overabundance of mute and tail grabs. Judges should start penalizing riders for using the same grabs over and over again, if not in the same run, over the course of the comp season. I don't care if you double 1800 with a clean and stomped landing, if you throw a mute or crossed tail grab, I'm not going to enjoy it, plain and simple. Yes, I may be impressed and I will definitely respect the rider for throwing down. But it is so far from aesthetically pleasing to watch. I know I am not alone here.

If this sport is going to continue to progress in a way that doesn't involve another flip or 180 or 360 degrees of extra rotation, someone needs to step the fuck up and break the fucking mold. There have been so many innovative grabs invented, why is everyone stuck on mutes and tail grabs?? Japans are the same way I guess, but at least they look better for the most part.

Mute grabs and crossed tail grabs are cool and all...but come on, it's a stock grab for all of talented riders for these tricks, it's time to see the envelope being pushed. 2014 is coming up and I for one don't want to see the same shit being thrown now being thrown in the Olympics.

kids shit on me, my tricks, and my edits everyday for a decade now, you better get used to it kid!
and at least people dont rate your vids one and then copy ur tricks and edits next week trying to claim them. if i had paid training at a water ramp facility i could do aerial tricks too, the difference is i did 1080s 8 years ago on ice coast jumps with a backwards hat on....you think i got respect for that? NO.
to this day i get no respect for tricks that i created, but i should be opinionless and not cause a ruckus, just be stoked that I influenced the biggest pros in the industry, that BS DTF! i will demand respect and attention just like you, goepper, wallisch, etc.
