Rode VideoMic?

Im looking at getting a mic for my dslr and was wondering if the rode video mic is good anybody have 1? any suggestions? +k for any help

i have the rode videomic pro and love it for run and gun style situations like skiing and longboarding and such. i have heard the videomic is pretty similar in quality and such just a little bulkier. but i love mine. rode mics are my favs for shotgun, on camera mics. ive used the ntg series as well

i actually only used a tripod for the scene in the park with the dog. it was a libec video tripod. not sure what model. i was just borrowing it

Have you ever used it much for interview kind of stuff would it be the best way to go if i mainly want to record some on hill audio and indoor/studio audio

if you do interviews with it you would need to have a little bit more controlled environment than you would need with a lav mic but it would still do fine. but for on hill audio and indoor stuff it would be optimal. in a studio it would work very well but being in a studio you could always get better sound as well

1 more question on the rode videomic (not pro) would it be good for recording sound effects like a car running or a motorcycle idk if you guys would know but it is worth a try...

it will get the job done for sure. i don't know what your money situation is but its less than 200 bucks and its pretty good quality. the way i look at it, it will do the job very well for you until you really get farther down the road and need to get something bigger and better. but i say go for it, it will improve your sound enormously.

What camera do you have? I have the pro on my Canon 7d and because of the agc in the camera I cant use the audio for things like interviews and stuff because it will get really noise. If you have a camera that don't have agc or you can turn it off then it would probably work pretty well but if not be aware that your sound is going to be to noise for many situations..

I have a nikon d300s not sure if it has the agc mode haven't gotten that far into audio how can you find out if it has it?

Never use a shotgun for interviews. The best/cheapest method for interviews is a wired lav + small audio recorder hidden in the pocket. Have them clap their hands to sync.

Why never? I was always under the impress a vertical shotgun on a boompole is great?

Also if you have an iphone and need an extra external recorder, take a look at 'White Recorder', it records 32 bit and is perfect for hooking lavs up to and dropping in the subjects pocket. Not to mention its only around 15 bucks.
