So The Mars Volta FINALLY dropped their latest album, I've been listening to it non stop and absolutely love it so far. As always its distinctly Volta with a completely new take on their style; no latin drum fills, extended soloing, or extravagancies just well-written songs with good instrumentation. Definitely worth a listen.
They described it as future punk, I'd say its pretty accurate. This album is blowing my mind so go check it out!
Only hang ups so far are the lack of Ikey Owens on keys (their new keys player is great through), and the lack of Frusciante on guitar (which TMV kept announcing for like the past year...).
I'm disappointed, but then again I haven't been fond of the last few Mars Volta albums.
From Cedric:
“Sorry no spanish on this record, no Zeppelinesque voyages, no Santana like flourishes or vishnu accuasations. No congas, no Hammond organ stabs, no 30 minute songs, no drums that sounds like mosquitos buzzing in your ear. Just future punk."
That alone pretty much exemplifies why I'm disappointed. Good thing Omar is doing so much amazing solo work right now.
