Free Mac Program for Designing Logo?

Anybody know of one? This guy wants me to design a simple logo for his company and wants it in a .pdf format. I can draw it but am not really good with computers, the simpler the better. All it needs is some text with a little mountain picture or something. But yeah is there any good free downloadable programs for mac or sites I could do this with?

adobe illustrator, just get the 30 day trial, you can crack it if you want. great program, no matter what stuff going to have a learning curve

Thanks! Illustrator got the job done fairly easily. nothing crazy but simple like i said.
and yeah I was confused too because pdf's are read only, correct? it's saved as a png and I think that's what they wanted in the first place

They probably want a .pdf. If you open a .pdf in illustrator it preserves outlines, so it's scaleable and editable.

Yes pdf was correct. Like twoods said it can forever be expanded as it is kept as a vector image. Most companies will want a logo in .pdf or .ai or .eps file format.

interesting, didn't know that about .pdf's. I thought PNG's were the same (vector based)

a .png is a glorified .gif, it's another sort of bitmap file that does transparency better, most useful for web purposes.

fyi inkscape is a open source vector program. not sure what os it runs on. worth lookin into.
