I'm leaving on Monday for a week in Ensenada. First time out of the country, slightly sketched out but only slightly. The community i rented the house in has a private army etc. When were you there last? What did you learn, cool story's? Feel free to try to scare me more haha!

definately stay in the tourist spots. And when i say stay there, I mean fucking STAY THERE. Don't think you can wander off and find some local clubs or bars or hit up a local to show you a place to party. Just go where its touristy and you'll be fine.

outside of the tourist resorts, like on the drive from the airport to the resort I stayed at the whole country just looks like a free for all. take BrewskiJr's advice, don't venture outside of the touristy place you're hopefully staying

police down there aren't all exactly upstanding beacons or morality and yeah you don't wanna get mixed up with the wrong crowd by accident

If you want to end up in a Mexican jail and on "Locked Up: Abroad" Mexico has very strict gun laws.

If you stay in the tourist areas, you will be fine. Most of the drug crime you hear about from the media occur along drug trafficking routes which aren't near ensenada.

i was there during january. we were walking down the main strip in town at night and just randomly there was a army truck that drove by and there was three dudes sitting in the bed of the truck with m16's. it was interesting

i have friends that drove down to mexico from slc 2 weeks ago for spring break and we havnt seen them since...just kidding they drove through mexico to a few houses they rented and said it wasn't sketchy at all...as long as you mind your own business and don't be a dumbass you'll be fine

just got back saturday, best surf trip of my life.
-got shacked for a week straight
-got mega high with crazy locals of a third world country.
-cut my foot while drunk so bad hotel employees woke me up because they thought i was dead because of the crime scene i made.
-went to a crazy expensive hotel, bought out the bar, put the drinks on someones room and signed the tab

but im doing alright.

you have obviously never been there then.


i love cancun, for a few reasons.


1. its cheap, the last time i was there i stayed for 5 nights all inclusive with airfare for 700 bucks. it doesnt get much cheaper then that.
2. you can dirnk if you can breathe.
3. the town of cancun is pretty safe and you can take a bus anywhere.
4. daddyo's gets popping during spring break.
5. the american dollar goes a long way.
6. did i say it was cheap?




now would i go anywhere else in mexico? hell no, i like my life.

double post, but use your common sense, and dont listen to anyone in this thread. ive been to mex about 20 times, and the worst thing to happen to me was a lost bag. enjoy your time, and use your judgment. local spots are where its at in terms of bars and restaurants, thats how to get a real feel for the country. dont go in acting like you own the place, be humble.no one will fuck with you unless you act like you deserve it. saying mexico is a shithole is such a sweeping generalization it proves that the people saying it are idiots and have never been. sure theres places id stay away from, but if youre there, youd know it. enjoy yourself, and trust your gut. dont be afraid of being adventurous. you can be safe at the same time.

ps, the guy above me doesnt know what hes talking about. convert the money you plan to spend to pesos, the exchange rate is like 12.7 pesos or so to a dollar, and if you pay in USD most places do 10 pesos to a dollar because its easier to convert and youre a dumb tourist. get your moneys worth. and DONT change money at the airports. theyll fuck you.

Good info! . Anyone been to Ensenada? I cannot wait to just eat everything i can find. I have one free day and its going to be spent catching Yellow Fin tuna and dicing em up on the boat sushi style. Cant wait. I figured i just mind my own business ill be fine, ill be on the water most the time anyways. STOKED!

pretty much. its not nearly as bad as people think down there. traffickers are killing traffickers, and people who are somehow inviolved in drugs. dont flash money anywhere, dont be loud and brash, and you will be fine.

enjoy the area, but remember to keep aware of things going on around you because it isnt a first world country. you will have a blast though.
