AP is reporting that 2nd degree murder charges are being presed and that he has turned himself in, in Tallahassee.

The reason it's different is that the police didn't arrive at the scene, take the word of the aggressors without challenging it, and let them go in that case. There's always going to be some people that do horrible things, racially motivated or otherwise. The reason the Trayvon Marin case got so much attention was that the cops basically told Zimmerman to have a nice day and sent him on his way. THAT'S the issue, not zimmerman. There's always gonna be more zimmermans.

Well we know for a fact that Zimmerman was looking for him, which suggests that he probably found him and not the other way around.

We should all be able to agree that the fact that he has been arrested and is going to have a trial is a good thing, even if you ultimately think he acted in self defense. These questions should be dealt with in a courtroom, and now that's what's going to happen.

You must have not realized the SUBTLE and NOT IN-YOUR-FACE underlying racial issues here, and the fact that whites have enslaved and dominated over other races in the US through your history. It kind of is a big deal in guiding prejudices.

Same rhetoric from you every time. Other cultures/races are misunderstood and victimized, white people have social penance to pay for the historical injustices they committed yada yada yada. If this is your reality then I honestly pity you.

Zimmerman is Hispanic, nothing about this entire case shows any indication of racial hatred. Useful idiots such as yourself have jumped on the whole race crime bandwagon faster than that Kony 2012 bullshit.

Zimmerman also had clear indications of head trauma when taken into custody. While I don't believe he should have been released so early, the evidence so far indicates that Zimmerman was in fact assaulted. The whole fiasco ever since has been driven by showing a cutesy looking 12-year old Trayvon murdered in cold blood. Every throwback civil rights idiot without a cause has jumped on this, and looks like you've fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. Trayvon brought skittles to a gun fight, and paid the price.

This whole case is going to turn into a shit-show when the evidence eventually exonerates Zimmerman and black people go ape-shit rioting in the streets.

Like I said, fuck "white guilt", I don't have any social penance for my ancestors' historical injustices and don't believe in the whole deal either, what's done is done. However, the history of race issues still plagues the world, especially in the nations that took part in enslaving other races for their cause, no amount of reparations or guilting someone will ever erase that scar, more likely just claw it open in divides like these.

I haven't actually jumped on this case because of the race issue at all, neither have many people across the pond, but because of the actual concept of Neighbourhood Watch, the self-defense murder law in Florida and armed citizens killing others in a very unclear case, facing no charges until now.

This pisses me off, anyone who says Caucasians are the dominant race in America are really out of touch, do you do nothing all day except for american news? because you seemed to have all of the bias that the media tries to push on you.

Also any American knows that the white race is the fastest diminishing race in the country right now, anyone who can claim that we still need to use affirmative action to make up for what happened are crazy. if a black man being president of this country doesn't signify that America has reached equality I dont know what will, granted there is still going to be racism but no where near the scale it was on 50 years ago.


back on topic, Zimmerman will probably loose this case, even if he was assaulted, that does not call for deadly force in my opinion.

I don't know where you live but you are extremely cut off from reality. Race is still a huge issue in this country, and to say that equality has been reached is ridiculous. (Personally i don't agree with affirmative action too, but besides that....) You are right, it is not on the same scale it was 50 years ago but it is still around. Where I live in NYC, we have something called the stop and frisk law which was designed to completely violate the rights of people in mainly black communities.

There is overwhelming evidence that shows blacks, and other minorities, are targeted more by the police, are not given the same job opportunities etc. etc. Not to mention when I hang out with some of my black friends they are constantly watched in stores and can't even get a taxi.

Can I ask where you get your news and information from? because your complaint about media bias is stupid. I hate to break it too you but every source of information is biased, and the mainstream media should be the least of your worries.

No one said anything about Affirmative Action or the role and number of Caucasians, you're on something completely different.

As to the media implication, you do know that media is a plural of medium? As in you are now communicating about this subject through a medium, you have learned about the Martin case through a medium or multiple media sources, unless of course you've been discussing this in person with Zimmerman, the 911 responder and the officers that arrived on the scene.

And no, I do not watch American news at all, actually.

2nd degree murder is going to be really hard to prove under floridas definition of that charge, unless there is some glaring evidence that has been kept hush hush. I think involentary manslaughter would have been a more applicable charge in this case. Regardless, if he is found guilty then he deserves to be punished accordingly but if he is exonerated and the self defense narrative is proven to be reality and it becomes evident that he was charged to appease public outcry for a public trial that he will be financially ruined and live the rest of his life fear for his and his families safety. Does anyone even really believe he can get a fair trial? Do you guys think he really acted mallisciously like he would have had to in order to be guilty of murder in the 2nd degree? Serious thoughts not making any staunch predictions until all the facts come to light.

You know, I promised myself I wouldn't submit an opinion on this, but I just have to.

It is NOT okay to stereotype and confront another person strictly on dress or colour, and Zimmerman should be punished for initiating conflict wherein there would otherwise be none, resulting in the death of a young adult. HOWEVER the media and protesters in this case have been acting shamefully, and in many cases, what I would consider criminally. The fact that major news stations (re: NBC, every stock pairing of mugshot/13 year old Trayvon photos). They have effectively decided the case before it has been put to trial with biased, skewed, and otherwise altered evidence in an effort to sensationalize and make race-war conflict out of a relatively common occurrence - a young person in baggy dress being shot.

The real tragedy here is not just that a young man was killed, but we may potentially be indicting a relatively innocent man for racism-fuelled murder before the evidence shows that. He may have had to defend himself, and Trayvon may have reached for the gun and attacked him. Anecdotal evidence shows he WAS treated by paramedics, but frankly, it's impossible from the chronological standpoint of the media to determine who was at fault with the evidence available to them.

We may have just put a man in jail for murder, when all he did was make a brutal mistake, and all this is at the behest of racial propaganda. It's very, very sad that we would all rush to indict someone like this. It's not going to bring Trayvon back or bring justice.

The media and protesters should be ashamed.

I think he will get a very fair trial. If you haven't seen the press conference the chief prosecutor gave you should try to find it she was very good and made it very clear that she had the authority (i guess that means evidence) to charge him, and she is going to make it a fair trial. Remember all the bad press casey anthony got? and she had a fair trial and got off.

Also if Zimmerman didn't want to have his life ruined he shouldn't of pursued Trayvon, especially when the dispatcher told him not too.

This whole case has been characterized as white on black crime, which is exactly why it has garnered so much media attention. Blacks are being offed in record numbers by Latino gang members in LA, I don't hear about that too often.

However, when minorities commit crimes against each other it's brushed off, there's this conception that that's just the way they are, it's always swept under the rug. However, Lord forbid a white man racially profile anyone, that would be unethical! You are hypocrites.

Hypothetically, if this Trayvon character had been shot in East LA by a Mexican gangbanger who racially profiled him, none of you would fucking care! You know how I know that? Because it happens almost every day.

On the other hand, someone trying to make his gated community a safer place for himself and his family follows a suspicious person? Crucify him! I'm going to go ahead and say Trayvon Martin was a fucking punk. If some hooded wannabe thug assaulted me, I'd put a hole in his head too.

I don't know how many fucking times I have to explain this, but the reason this has become a national issue isn't because some guy shot a black kid, it's because some guy shot a black kid **and then the cops just let him go**. It really doesn't have anything in common with any unsolved gang killings anywhere.

Probably, but the reason they fucked up is less important than the simple fact that they fucked up.

They let his body sit in the morgue as a John Doe for three days even though he had his cell phone in his pocket when they found him. They obviously didn't give a shit about the kid.
