So I get out of class to get a drink and passing by the main doors I happend to see the special ed teacher with 2 of her students. Well that is nothing out of the ordinary if they wheren't washing the widows and walls! The teacher wasn't helping at all, she was just standing back and keeping an eye on them, like a scene out of Shindler's List. To me this has to be breaking a law of some kind.

not always, the thing to keep in mind is that sometimes special ed programs have life training aspects, where they might learn about cleaning, cooking, laundry, general around the house stuff that we all take for granted.

Also, sometimes these programs also include some job training, and sometimes the special ed kids will get paid for their work as well. I know I worked with one kid (he was a camper at a summer camp for disabled kids) for about 4 years, and from the experiences he had with us (cleaning, moving/organizing things, multi-tasking - simple multi-taking mind you) he was able to get a job at a local store stocking shelves and the supply room. The most rewarding was the way he came in with $5 from his pay check asking if we could get him a sub for lunch (with his own money).

Sometimes the benefits are not a clear as people think they should be, however, you are right that sometimes people do just take advantage of people because they don't know any better.

ya, my school is livonia's sp-ed school and they dont have like chem or alg 2 classes, they have classes that help them learn everyday needs. even tho it is kind of 'using' them they also showed them how toi plant plants in the front of the school. even if it is using them, they still feel really good about them self after doing something. like these sp-eds who empty the trash and put in new trash bag, after that they are so happy that they did it, and proud of them selfs...

yea, retarded kids at my school don't really do shit for cleaning. One that sits at our table occaisonly has a job outside of school mopping and cleaing some store. Hes pretty crazy because he has super sensitive sweet hearing and gets pissed when people make a buzz sound. I did it all the way accross our loud huge lunch room and he heard me, and freaked the fuck out.

yea dude that's fucked up.

there used to be this kid who was handicapped from the neck down. so he would steer his wheel chair with a mouth thing. well none the less, that kid used to run over my, and everyone elses feet all the time. that sucked

so i tipped over his wheel chair into the pool. he managed to swim down and get his wheel chair, all with his tounge. it was pretty impressive.
(this part wasn't true)

oh in elementary school we used to have two retarded kids and they had sex with each other. it was crazy. the boy used to always dress up like a bat for halloween, and he was all tiny. it was halarious, David Brown was his name. and the the girl was super butch. she couldn't even speak so i dunno what her name was.

my school used to have a TMI (Trainable Mentally Impaired, thats right trainable) classroom and I always felt so bad for those kids. Not only were they special ed they were like extreme special ed. Most of them had other disabilities too. I remember one was blind and retarded and he'd walk around and run into stuff. It was terrible.

at my old highschool, they had a special ed class. The kids in it were mostly downsydrome kids. But what was so cool was that at my school they went and intermingled among the people at lunch time and everyone was nice to them, they talked to them and laughed with them. I was even a little dissapointed to hear that one of the most liked amoung the school, ernie, had moved back to Nanuvut.
