Saalbach Hinterglemm Freeride terrain.

I'm going to Saalbach-Hinterglemm on friday for the British Universities Snowsports Council Main Event and competing in the freeride. Does anyone know whether they have any decent freeride terrain there or is it going to be pretty basic?

Yeah, and I know I'm going to get slammed for this but... I'm racing :-( Sorry. I know I have let down Newschoolers. haha. I was going to do freestyle too, but I didn't really want to spend my whole time competing and I prefer to do freestyle at my own pace in my own way rather than comp. What else are you competing in?

doing freeride, slope, big air and whatever the syndicate comp is going to be, whether its quarter pipe or hip, but im not really going to push myself in that to win a couple of hoodies. tried searching for decent off piste on google but its either above the level of people who have been or it just isnt there. supposedly its a intermediate resort with some decent reds and only really one true black. they have a officail off piste track but its south facing so depending on how warm it is might not be safe to hit. With there being a night park finding time to do park at your own pace isnt going to be hard but balancing that and drinking is going to be a struggle.

The terrain is pretty good, thing is you're way too late. Snow conditions lately are catastrophic... it's been sunny and warm (21°C in the capital Vienna) for the past 2 weeks now.

If I remember correctly Saalbach isn't much higher than 2000m. My suggestion is: bring a swimsuit.

well it snowed yesterday and there is more forecast in the next couple of days so we will see. cant be any worse than being in tignes in april last year.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is what I would consider my 'home' mountain (though it's still 1000km/600 miles) away. I know the whole resort like the back of my hand.

This is a map I made for a Dutch powder-junkie forum:

The text at the top says: Take the Seekar lift (draglift), go down the other side and you'll eventually reach Lengau (at the end of the valley), from there you can take the bus back. It's not the fastest, since it takes a while to get back, but it's a very nice run. 1000m of vertical.

Dude. Freestyle is usually afternoons and evenings with maybe a night big air.

Not really expecting anything other than dust on crust at best, but might keep the drop sizes moderate and go for aggression and smoothness instead. Bringing swimming shorts for the charity bikini downhill anyway so I'll be prepared!

Ahhh sick. Thanks for putting that up. Probably not going to be going off exploring for pow as I'm being kinda realistic in accepting there basically won't be any, but trying to second guess where they might hold the freeride comp. Already had the whole season in Canada last year, a week in VT at christmas and a week in Morzine/Avoriaz at the end of January to satisfy my powder cravings. If there is any it will be sweet as, but I wouldn't mind a bluebird week of park progression to change things up a bit.

Yeah, raced when I was a kid though and only started freestyle last year on my season so I kinda figured it would be more worth my while competing in something I've got more of a chance in. Can then spend all afternoon watching freestyle, doing freestyle for fun and chillin'.
