Need some MacBook help.advice

So I smashed my MacBook screen to shit and I don't have the funds to get it replaced as of now, so I'm just gonna go with an external monitor setup? Anyone ever done this before?

I'm planning on going to the Apple store and finding out the converter I need and what type of monitor would work, then going and getting the necessary supplies for cheaper at a Best Buy or some shit. Anyone know what type of converter it is? Can I get the external monitor at any electronic goods store/department? How much will this run me you think? Thanks guys.

Yeah I've done it with 4 monitors backin the day with Counterstrike Source and GMOD. I had an alienware running parallels and cynogen mod with a gaming mouse. Shits crazy.

The adapter depends on the model you have.  I'm guessing that will run you 20 bucks or more if you buy an apple one.  Other than that just find a monitor for cheap as free on craigslist or something.  If you have a newer macbook pro and didn't break the actual backlit part you can just hairdry the old glass off and buy a new piece on ebay for really cheap, buddy did it, worked perfectly

hey bro, like 2 years back i bought a samsung T240 monitor for 300$ shipped online. Its got HDMI input, audio input--the works..

Its prob perfect for what you want and dirt cheap now.

i'd look on ebay or something for a cheap monitor, then just get a display port-->hdmi adapter

Trew, but sounds like he's DJing, so I don't think hdmi is totally nessissary. VGA is is fine if your tight on cash

everyone is saying 300 for a monitor.

Did the OP not say he is short on cash? If he was to spend that it would be cheaper to just replace the screen in his mac.

30 bucks for your adapter. depending on if you go vga dvi or hdmi.

honestly, you wont notice a defference in vga dvi or hdmi unless you're on a high quality screen or big screen. just go with the vga, more people have that than anything, especially if you dont have a lot of money to spend right now.


they're just trying to force the industry and its stupid. i bought a computer and it only has hdmi or mini vga out and its super inconvenient. yes there are bonuses to the other two, but its just being forced, making it inconvenient for an audio visual industry.

I got a combo HDMI/DVI adaptor on amazon for $10 and it works perfectly. It may not be apple brand but it's two adaptors in one and that would cost probably $70 or so from apple.

yeah dude ive done this a few times before. once you get the hardware, youre going to have to boot up, long in, and try and drag a Finder window over to your external monitor. from there you can get System Preferences over, and set it to Mirror displays.

that being said, you can buy macbook displays for around $100 online, and you cna replace them pretty easily. i've done it on 2 macs. might be cheaper than buying a new monitor and the adapters
