That's like me saying "take out the partying, the drinking, and the other random bullshit clips that makes 4bi9 House stupid. The episodes would be 1000 times better with just skiing." The new edit is 6 minutes long with 2 and a half minutes of skiing. How does all of this information make you feel? You fucking hypocrite.
Its an act as simple as that. This edit was obviously an attempt to appeal to a base. Just as a movie industry appeals to a base with a certain film. They are both selling a product. Now whether or not you agree with the message of the company or the way it delivers that message is entirely up to you. You can pass judgement on them, but both you and I know that someone who possesses the intelligence of one of our now extinct cousins does not make an assumption without facts. Until you know exactly how the situation was handled (and maybe somehow you do) I would suggest that you stop making outlandish and self-righteous statements.
If you feel like the safety of the US (or wherever they shot this) is being compromised by FD wear, I suggest that instead of whining about it on a forum, you report them to the authorities.
Now we're REALLY showing age and perspective here.
Professor - lets set the way-back machine to the late '80s, early '90s. I was about 10 years old in 1989, which was at the absolute height of the original gangsta rap movement.
Remember a little group called NWA? 'Niggaz with attitude?'
Visual for you incase you're too young:
Notice the guns? These guys weren't just some white fucking kids pretending to be gangsters, they were full-on real-life gang members rapping about killing police and doing drive-bys and shit.
When I was about eleven years old, I was then introduced to Body Count by one of my friends. Here's a taste of one of their songs, again if age is restricting your memory.
Glorifying what? That's right... the murdering of police officers.
Shit.. there's even a track on this album called 'momma's gotta die tonight' in which Ice T rap/rocks about killing his mother by dousing her bed in lighter fluid and burning her alive.
When this shit hit the mainstream media, and us dumb fuck white kids ate it up - parents freaked the fuck out.
Religious groups, politicians, and scared white people of all kinds flocked the world doing EVERYTHING they could to 'save the children' and keep this music out of our hands.
All of a sudden there was a wave of albums which were 'banned'. Yes, they were pulled off of record store shelves, ripped from the radio, snatched off of MTV. Those days, there was no interwebz either, so the only way to get your hands on some banned shit was to try to copy it from a buddy or something. It was super hard to get this stuff...
What it did though, despite being vilified by mainstream media and pulled from every distribution channel imaginable... is make us all want it just that much more. Sometimes you could buy the 'clean' version at the store after they went through their legal battles, but what everyone wanted was to hear what they REALLY wanted to say. Albums would come missing tracks, with blanks or beeps on them... it was horrors.
The funny part is that has lasted until today, and to all of you its probably super normal to hear blanks/different lyrics/beeps in a song. That was a totally new thing in the late '80s.
The other part (and now that I've set it up) that makes your statement laughable is the fact that hardly anyone turned into a fucking gang member and started shooting cops, killing mama or selling crack because of the music they listened to. All us kids used to make fun of the adults for thinking that we were so dumb that the music we listened to would make us do things which we knew were wrong.
Shitty parents are what makes kids to shitty things. If someone is going to emulate this kind of fantasy, then there are a horribly disturbed human being and they were destined for a life of crime no matter what.
Sure you've seen GSW's, but why aren't you ranting about how horrible 99% of media on our planet is? Amercian movies, television, rap music, books, games... you name it... all glorify violence and irresponsible gun use. However, in certain media, we've realized that a little bit of fantasy is fun and OK once in a while. I mean nobody watches Die Hard and says "Jeeze... bruce willis really couldn't cause that much damage in a building. Protocol would never allow it. Kids are going to grow up and think that this is what cops do and frankly I can't stand for it."
TL/DR:
Its not about whether they're going out and having fun, its about displaying a fantasy reality that appeals to a certain part of the market. It breaks out of the status quo, and livens things up a bit.
So again - I back this 150%. Emulating it in real life is fucking stupid. Just try to be like I was when I was 11 - make the difference between Ice T claiming he kills cops and his mother and what you're supposed to do in life.
You can like the music without carrying out the message.
please tell me you dont actually think that drunk demolishing a kitchen is "funny" and a glorification of this stupid gangster bullshit isnt. Its fake , your also forgetting its a JOKE. like your telling me shit in 4bi9 house isnt stupid?! Real or fake its fucking funny.
First thing first, I don't see myself embracing or defending NWA.
Secondly:
How much have songs like NWA's Fuck the Police, done to deepen the chasm between black youth and law enforcement? Has the violent songs of recent black culture helped contribute to the mentality that leads to events such as this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17453433
Thirdly, and in my opinion most importantly:
They were blindly shooting out of moving car. Lesh was not even looking at his 'target' when if fired. I enjoy shooting a lot. I do not however, take gun safety lightly. Nor do I like idiots like these three providing ammunition to the gun control nuts.
No, don't worry, I'm on the FD side of this. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of hating on the FD edit for it's content, yet making a video with the near exact shenanigans.
OK, so rap music is the devil, and has ruined society. Any bad displays of gun safety in entertainment should also be persecuted. So every television show where a cop shoots at a bad guy in a crowded street should be protested against.
Listen - I'm 100% about gun safety. However, I think you're taking this way too seriously. I mean come on.... you should start protesting at your local movie theatre. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol had IMMENSE amounts of both gun and car safety violations.
Police vs. Black violence isn't caused by rap music either. Its the socioeconomic barriers that are built in, causing a rift in our society. Come on.. don't try to link NWA to that... that's just uneducated.
the only problem i have with this video is the guns.
why the fuck is that needed? it just make it harder for people who responsibly own and use firearms for recreation and self defense to still have that right.
the skiing in the edit was pretty cool, the rest of the shit was a joke.
yes i could have been ok with the titties and the grills, but as soon as he takes a glock and sticks it in his pants i imidiately hated the video.
none of these clowns should even be allowed to touch a gun, especially mr. David 'bomb threat' Lesh
Go protest at your local movie theatre, or Television network.
Hell, lets ban all rap music. See my post above about gangster rap in the late '80s.
Gun education needs to be with the parents. Kids are exposed to gun stupidity in media everywhere they turn. Shit.. its in fucking cartoons.
GI Joe anyone? SHit... TOM AND JERRY?
Like I was three watching this. They walk, shoot each other in the face and all that happens is the cat turns black and the mouse laughs at him.
If that isn't some fucked up gun safety, then I don't know what is. However, am I an idiot about guns? No. My granpa taught me how to be safe with a real gun.
That edit is fucking dumb. Don't really care for them doing what they do, but they try way too hard to act gangster. I am pretty jealous of some of their toys that they got; not sure if they bought them or their parents did though.
On the other hand, that video was a joke. I didn't think it was funny (or original), but whatever. I bet the guys at first drop got a pretty good laugh out of it, even though nobody else thought it was funny.
It also had some very solid skiing, Breck has the gnarliest rails... gotta give credit when credit is due
But why is there a difference? Do you know for a fact that there was bullets and not blanks?
I'm hard pressed to say this was not staged. I mean even setting up the camera shots requires so much stop and go... for anyone who has ever filmed anything.
Its not like they have robo helicopter cameras flying around them all day capturing everything in real-time. They need to set this stuff up to get the right shot.
There's only so real that anything like this can ever be.
How many live rounds were actually shot blindly into an unknown backdrop while filming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol? How many of those car chases were actually conducted on open roads with uninvolved citizens on them?
The FD children did not take
I am not placing the entirety of claim for Police/Black violence on Gangster Rap, but the idea that many of the songs did not and do not help put an edge on many LEO's attitude towards blacks, and many black teenager's attitude towards LEOs, is either being naive, and/or playing the ostrich.
Well they didn't crash did they? I mean it couldn't have been completely random and un-spotted because obviously someone was behind that camera with the other car in view.
On that note... should we start telling pros to put helmets on in their movie segments because it sets a bad example?
I'd gander to guess they gained some, and most importantly gained loyalty. THey're filling a hole in the industry that - love it or hate it - exists.
Many other action sports, and walks of life have their thugged-out brand aimed at white kids. Every one of them does quite well for themselves.
What is stupid is to market to the same fucking market that everyone else is doing. I mean market to your regular skier and you're up against Orage, North Face, Helly Hansen, Salomon, Spyder, DNA, Saga.... the list is endless.
Be the gangster brand and you're in a crowd of one.
Not a great example. Not wearing a helmet endangers yourself.
The issue here is that FD's actions in the video arent something that only effects themselves, their actions could have serious repercussions for random bystanders, be it the cars getting run off the road, or some dude in the woods who ends up with a GSW because some idiots thought fake driveby's fit their "hood" image, joking or not. All the joking in the world is irrelevant when you kill or maim someone.
I think the point that he, and I (to an extent) are getting at, is not so much the example set, but the actual actions taken. "Well nothing bad happened" is not an excuse. I do not think that it is unreasonable for people to expect that kids will not be filming their stupid on the road. Is this the only instance of it happening, no it is not. Does that make it acceptable? No, it does not.
For a 25 year old, he seems to get a lot of kick out of acting like a 15 year old.
My point is arguing about its affect on youth. These guys aren't fucking idiots, and I know that they aren't being irresponsible when creating something like that.
So, knowing with certainty (because I fact check) that this isn't real, we're arguing about its influence on youth. That is what I am arguing about, not whether its dangerous.
So yes, wearing a helmet is a personal choice, but the message that a pro sends to 'impressionable' youth is the same - doing dangerous things is cool.
I however do not believe that you can actually impress upon a youth like this. Parents are the ones who are responsible for teaching right and wrong, and youth see all kinds of bad shit everywhere every day and don't become morally corrupt because of it.
Do I support gun safety? Absolutely.
Do I grab my pitchfork when I see a rap video where they shoot their guns in the air? Absolutely not.
Fantasty has its place. Its fun to be able to fantasize about things that are not real.
That is why porn, video games and action movies are awesome.
That is funny, I thought his career revolved around having rich parents. With the amount of product stock left in that warehouse, I would be suppressed if FD did that well this year...
I am arguing that. I find it hard to believe that they could acquire a permit to close a public road to shoot a 1 minute scene.
But I agree you can't impress upon the youth like that. they know the difference between reality and fiction. Which is why I think there is such a negative backlash from this video. Because people realize that what they are doing is irresponsible.
How much do you REALLY know about that oncoming traffic? Also, it was pretty far away from the scene, with proper spotting you could pull this off with no danger. I mean sure, its not quite as safe as a closed set, but its no less safe than when a skier takes a pretty blind jump with a buddy spotting.
This whole thing was planned, staged, set up and done in very controlled environments. Stop thinking it wasn't, because the camera does not tell the truth.
Believe me, I don't just come on the interwebz and argue without fact.
