You don't need anything special, I rolled my '91 Acura Integra however many times it takes to go 150 feet (my guess is like 15) and was completely fine aside from burning my hand on my exhaust when I got out. Mind you anyone else in the car wouldn't have walked out and I am kind of invincible. But yeah if you are super paranoid about safety get a truck.

a deployable safety bag on wheels! Having an accident in this is almost confortable.

Pick a heavy can. Stay far away from SUVs and small cars. Go for a pickup truck or a volvo. The later the year the better in all cases.

But seriously just because you have a "safe" car does not ensure you to be invincible if you were to get into a crash. Most of the time people get wrecked because they make stupid decisions and not what kind of a car they have. Ultimately its good to keep in mind but dont base your entire decision on it when making your purchase.

this story has literally no bearing on anything. people live out of the worlds craziest shit from time to time, but it doesnt change the fact that people die 99/100 times in the same situation. your car had nothing to do with it.

get a truck and drive slow and defensively. I drove a 94 4runner forever. It was a really good car. Don't have any experience with crashing it but it was certainly pretty solid, if only maybe a tad bit high off the ground.

Yeah, your goal should be to never use them, but if you have to use them, you're going to happy as shit when they are. Accidents happen, it's not like these things happen deliberately, therefore why not due your best to be prepared if they do happen.

well yeah, its not exactly the coolest car you can have, but taking into account price, safety, reliability, and fuel economy it is pretty damn good. Again, I don't know actual stats on the vehicle, but none the less.

Or you could go VW.

volvo 850 or s80 would be the safest in tests and can be found in your price range
vw usually makes 5 star crash test ratings (i know the 99-05 golf did) and the passat has a lot of good reviews and the 4motion system
