The prequel to Ridley Scott's masterpiece Alien, a work of art that has shaken millions of souls through its amazing portrayal of horror in space, in the unknown and the adversities man must face when put against a perfect being, resembling the darkest and most vicious fears and carnal desires. Finally, the rich universe is once again in the hands of its creator.
.
I'm rarely actually hyped for movies, but this could shape up to be another masterpiece by Scott. Fingers crossed! Whoever edited this trailer should win an Award for Best Anything, as it is a shocking display and juxtaposition of sights and sounds.
Saw the trailer for this when i was seeing The Dictator. Really wanted to see it, seems like an epic experience with massive.. everything. Havent seen any of the older alien movies (is alien v.s predator one of them)
So i'm thinking of downloading Alien and the others in the trilogy or whatever it is, then watch prometheus.
Considering in Predator 2 when Glover was on the Predator's ship and sees an Alien skull mounted on the wall I would THINK AVP is part of the universe but GODDAMN was it such an awesome concept that got completely fucked over.
Whew, great film, definitely something I'd recommend to see in the theaters, the sound and rumble was amazing for creating the atmosphere. It didn't completely live up to my expectations, but by that I mostly mean that the second half of the film was quite unpredictable for the most part and not easily seen from the trailers. You will have a few surprises in store, fan of the series or not.
That said, it wasn't perfect. There were some pretty weird dialogue choices for the characters and a few key scenes felt like they were really, really rushed, and one moment in particular stood out to me as if they cut out a few important scenes from before it, leaving it open in a bad way and leading to me wondering the character's motivation afterwards.
I think if Scott made it a higher rating (in the UK it's a "15", where as if it was made to be a "18") then some of the scenes which were cut, it could have had a better critique from the franchise's "fanatics". Unfortunately Scott decided to make it more accessible for the younger audience, so it'll bring in more money.
Here's to hoping the DVD/Bluray will contain some of the deleted scenes which would have made it a higher rating.
Definitely, was 16 here but probably the same cut. I don't wanna spoil much but didn't you feel that the reactions and the following scenes after the surgery were a bit rushed and weird?
I had never seen Alien or Aliens and I watched Alien the night before in preparation for Prometheus.
I was actually scared during Alien, even though its a film fron '79. It's way ahead of it's time and it felt more like it was from the 90's than anything. I didn't even notice it was that old.
With that said, I went and saw Prometheus with 6 people, 3 of which hadn't seen Alien. They thought it was terrible. The 3 of us that had seen it about creamed our pants.
It is an incredible film. However, If you're looking to be left with more answers than questions, you will be disappointed. It answers a lot of questions but you kind of have to think about the film as a whole afterwards to really figure it out. It was very well done, and definitely worth the $13 I spent to see it in IMAX 3D. The movie is so visually pleasing that it would almost be a disservice to yourself to not see it in IMAX 3D.
wonderful, it was beautiful. the plot was sick and made you think. the action scenes were epic, it had enough horror in it, (mind you, not as much as alien) but i FUCKING LOVED IT
this could be epic, my thoughts are I hope Ridley Scott keeps true to his roots and doesn't get carried away with crazy special effects, take Jaws or the orginal Alien for example. The reason its so scary and suspenseful is you don't really see the scary thing. The reason for this was obviously the lack of technology at the time, but it made for a super suspenseful and good film. So I hope Ridley does this again and doesn't ruin the film with a bunch of overused special effects just so he can please the majority of stupid-ass viewers ( cough cough avatar)
also did anyone who saw it notice how right before the female main character sees the founder, when she goes to open the door in, there is the surface skis logo on it...
I couldn't agree more about that aftermath of that scene being rushed. I'll try to explain without spoiling it because I hate that. After the surgery everyone is chill with her and there really isn't a confrontation with her and David despite the tension that was built up right before it. And before hand they were chasing her to contain her. I understand what happened, as the intercutting technique was supposed to convey chaos happening simaltaneously in the cave and on the shuttle so they lost track of events, but it was odd transitionally.
Nevertheless, an awesome film! And I don't know about you guys, but it was R-rating over here and graphic enough so I don't know what else they could have put.
I thought it was amazing. One of the best films I've seen in a while. Lots of great ideas and it really got me thinking about some stuff. I would definitely recommend it. Maybe it was so good because I was really baked but oh well. Watch it.
