Only posting this bc I sent it to a buddy a couple of days ago:
Ski resorts: MSSI/Avila, Bromont (both great mountains within 1hr of Montreal). Jay Peak, VT within 2 hrs and Tremblant within 2 also. Idk what will still be open on 4/20 though besides Jay to be honest.
As for drugs: well i'm sure you can figure tat your yourself. It is Canada after all.
Best bars:
- Dieu du Ciel (my favorite)(laurier + st. urbain) Microbrewery, chill spot, good pint prices and the beer is unbeatable around
- resevoir (st laurent + duluth) - also a microbrewery, but a restaurent too. If you go for food or beer you will be happy - both are amazing. Great brunch, great lunch and great dinner. Or great for a pint. Great spot to take a girl even, my girlfriend and I like to go get pints there at night.
- La Distillerie (st denis + ontario) - if you mixed drinks this is the spot to go to. Go at happy hr (i think 4-8ish) for 1/2 price drinks. Huge drinks, massive massive drink list, and somewhere between a chill spot and a bumping bar. Sitting down kinda bar. You won't leave sober
- Barmacie (laurier + parc (ish, i forget the exact cross). Fancy cocktails, pretty happening lounge
Those are all good bars. If you want trashy clubs/that kinda scene, just walk up st. laurent and you'll find anyone. Belmont (mt royale and st laurent has great music). avoid places that are an obvious tourist trap
Food:
- Schwartzs smoked meat sandwich. a MUST. (st laurent + bagg)
- st viateur bagels (st viateur + parc). best bagels around. bring some home. it's not sit down. all they sell is bagels + cream cheese.
- romados - Portuguese rotisserie. Absolutely amazing. Get the 1/2 chicken plate, spicy. Big locals spot and you wont find tourists there. (Rachel + de bullion I believe) kinda a take out place.
- nice sit down resto: les enfants terribles (will need a reserveation). It's on bernard. Amazing amazing food. fancy place, bring a chick
- Also, Vallier in old montreal (rue mcgill just above notre dame). Great French Bistro
- Steak Frites (there are about 4 in town). Exactly what it sounds. BYO which is always nice.
Where to go: it's gonna be a beautiful day this weekend so walk up the mountain, head to the cross and check out the views they are stunning.
- walk around the plateau (if you look at a map, that's the area to the east of Mont Royale. generally bordered by st laurent, parc and laurier). This is the hipster ish part of town (similar to Brooklyn, but not as flash of course). Great cafes, bars, pedestrian streets, amazing food (most of the spots i mentioned are in the plateau).
