Ok so I've been looking at replacing my 28-80mm 3.5-5.6 because it has some wiggle when it's zoomed out, it isn't the best quality, and it doesn't internally focus. I was looking at the Nikkor 16-85 due to it's quality zoom range and good optics, IF, VR II, the focus is closer to the body which I feel would help reduce shake when focusing, and it's quality construction. Apparently there's been some flooding in Thailand or China or wherever these are made and now they are having supply issues. Basically this lens is back ordered everywhere and I want new glass soon. What can you guys recommend me that would be similar? I've looked at the Tamron 17-50 but they are coming out with the 24-70 which I would be much more interested in. I wish they had a set release date and price available which I can't seem to find. This lens would not be for filming skiing. Any recommendations? My budget is about $700-800.
