Why do women wear makeup?

if you're good looking, you'll look good with or without makeup
if you're ugly, makeup really won't help much, if at all.


maybe i don't understand the whole story, but i'm pretty sure the sole purpose of makeup is to look better.

beautiful girls still look great without makeup on....

i don't really care if girls in general wear makeup or not, but i hate it when girls bitch about how bad they look without makeup on, and i also hate it when girls edit pictures on facebook and get other girls commenting "oh my god so pretty!"

Well, I agree you are good looking there is no need to go for makeup even if you are not good looking there is no need for makeup just use Beauty Sauerstoff Kosmetik that keep your skin glowing.

For confidence reasons along with many others, why would a girl, especially one of younger age where she is competing for guys not wan to improve her appearance. I along with many others can appreciate a very pretty girl who doesn't need makeup and is beautiful. However that is not the case. Off to another point, how media has influenced all these girls into what is "pretty"

I only ever use foundation (it just kind of even's the skin tone out, I thought acne ended after high school?), eyeliner, and mascara (sometimes). Like that's all I own.
But say today I'm not wearing any, worked out in the morning so there's no point to where any.

Women are so insecure they'll wear makeup even at the most ridiculous times. To the gym, during a softball game, before a run.

I was flipped on ESPN one day and it was the college softball world series. Every chick in the game was wearing makeup. By the end of the game they had shit running all over their faces.

And you don't even know them or me for that matter. I honestly only wear foundation unless I'm going out to the bars at night. I'm not saying it to try to make myself feel better that's literally what I do. I also wear sweatpants and tshirts to class regularly. It's guys like you that also say "wow can you put a little effort into the way you look". Go fuck yourself. I don't get ready in the morning to look good for you.

In a sport that is synonymous with the words "dyke" and "lesbian," I always wore makeup and a huge bow to avoid the negative connotation. Poor example because even Jennie Finch wore makeup on the mound and she's a fucking supermodel.

I wear a lot of makeup, not because Im insecure on my looks (maybe I am deep down and unconsciously, who cares. I dont anyway.) but because I think its fun to do my own makeup. Its crazy how much difference a little bit of foundation, eyeliner, mascara or blush could do to you. And idk, when I feel that I look good, I feel good too. I could have the crappiest fucking excuse of a day and feel like poo on legs, then BAM I do my makeup and feel way better. Call me shallow or whatever, but I guess its the same thing with people who work out loads to look better. They feel healthier and feel better about themselves, and I reckon most people wouldnt blatantly say "oh I only lift because I am insecure about my body and need to hide under a layer of muscles".

I dont feel forced to put makeup on, its just become a habit to me, like brushing my teeth in the morning.


what I dont like is when people say they like "girls who are naturally beautiful". Like, what does that even mean?

After reading the posts from the ladies on this site I can equate makeup for girls to putting on a suit for guys. When you put on a suit you just feel damn good. Feel like you're gonna get shit done that day and you feel important.

Look good, feel good.. Just don't over do it.

I lift weights so I can pick up really heavy shit and move it around like its my bitch. Bigger muscles are a side effect.


You wear makeup because you like to look pretty, no way to dance around that fact.

We have socially and biologically created traits that we see as beautiful. For men, it's masculinity, fierce eyes, strength. For women, it's big eyes, luscious lips, pretty much all sexual stuff.

Make up, like other artistic mediums, has an ability to accentuate different things. Mascara and eye liner make the eyes look bigger. Concealer makes you look less tired, eye shadow makes the color of your eyes pop.

The downfall of this is that wearing makeup has become so common place that many men can no longer tell when a female is wearing it. They are so used to seeing flawless skin that seeing a female with out the face make up and men assume she is tired, un healthy, doesn't care about her appearance.

When a man says he prefers women without makeup he typically means with natural looking makeup. Sadly, natural looking makeup has become sooo good at hiding any flaw that it's very far from natural.

Women now tend to feel naked with out it--revealed. Going without makeup is somewhat socially abnormal in metro areas. So not wearing it and you feel like a bit of an outsider. If you are single, it is even worse because you are competing with every other female for a suitable mate. Makeup gives you an opportunity to potentially look better looking.

Makeup... all about sex, being socially accepted, placing your self higher on the social hierarchy.

I'm an eyeliner fan myself.

adding these comments on natural makeup I saw on a tumblr post way back:

- I utterly despise the concept of ‘natural’ makeup. DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S NATURAL? HUH? DO YOU? NOT WEARING ANY FUCKING MAKEUP.

- I actually have a lot of negative feelings about ‘natural’ makeup creating unrealistic concepts of women. What guys mean when they say ‘they like girls who don’t wear too much makeup’ is that they don’t like obvious makeup.

- yyyeeesssss, and then they’re all confused when they see actual makeupless women and it’s all like “bitch is ugly” or ” you ill?” it’s why i refuse to wear foundation or whatever. You get what you fucking get, deal with it assholes.

on some people it made's a huge difference,,, I think it makes me look ugly and it feels disgusting so i just try to keep my skin as clean as possible. Most of my friends wear quiet a lot of make up, some of them look better with it and some look better with out it.

Go fuck yourself indeed. If you didn't mean to say that we're all trying to make ourselves feel better when we say we wear natural make up, what did you mean ? I'm pretty sure that was exactly what you said. I'm always skeptical of these threads that talk about women and different decisions they make, with the majority of responders being boys and fairly young men who act like they know what they're talking about ... And then you have the odd asshole who literally, for whatever reason, entirely dismiss the opinions of the women who are actually affected by these kinds of choices... Whatever. I have a little regimen, about 10 min, resulting in a glow, more even skin tone and some colour, along with highlighting the eyes with some mascara. I went about a year without hearing make up ever. Very liberating. But the choice, make up or no make up ? To me it's like, what do you want to wear today ? A hoodie and sweats ? (No make up) Jeans and a t ? (Light makeup) More formal/having fun ? (Something more)

I said that girls use make up to make themselves feel good about themselves. a point which has support from posts that girls have made in this thread.
I said that girls posted in here that they 'only you a little bit of make up' because the general mood of the thread is that too much make up is ugly, and they want to fit in with that idea. I stand by that point.
She also said that I didnt know any of those girls - i have 3 of them as fbook friends and have chatted with others a lot. I was not taking a shot at anyone, just saying what i thought was true, and has support.

Then she said "It's guys like you that also say "wow can you put a little effort into the way you look". theres obviously no argument in support of that here. And its pretty unlikely that there ever would be. lol its a pretty outrageous claim. I take offence to that because im not even a little bit like 'those guys', and would certainly never say that.

Hey man, I never claimed to be a lady - but had you said that earlier, maybe I wouldn't have used such foul language. I see what your saying now and your opinions are completely legit (obviously). But I couldn't help but sense a hint of condescension in the first post and I still think that trying to look good is a human condition, not a female one. And perhaps girls in this thread are saying they wear a more natural regime is because they prefer it.. Not because they want the approval of a bunch of boys in the Internet.

I don't wear makeup at all. The newest shit in my makeup bag is 2 years old and hasn't been used for about that long. I'm too lazy for that shit, I'd rather get an extra few minutes of sleep each morning instead of sitting in front of a mirror.

I'd definitely rather sleep also. I don't wear makeup to work, but I bring it with me to throw some on in the bathroom if I have a presentation or a big meeting-- it just makes me look more polished when I wear nice clothing.

If I had any other job I probably would, though. I don't wear makeup because I don't care what anyone at my work thinks-- I work with a bunch of trades people so everyone is super scrubby for the most part.

I wear makeup when I go out though
