Why do women wear makeup?

if you're good looking, you'll look good with or without makeup
if you're ugly, makeup really won't help much, if at all.


maybe i don't understand the whole story, but i'm pretty sure the sole purpose of makeup is to look better.

most are insecure and have been brought up in a world that says girls without makeup are ugly

my GF hates wearing it and never wears it around me when its just the 2 of us, i prefer it that way

I wear it mainly just to fix myself up and make sure I look nice going out. It's how my mother raised me. It's just a way to make sure you aren't leaving the house looking like you just rolled out of bed.

I only wear a light amount of concealer for the blemishes and a small amount of mascara and eye shadow if any. I try to keep it real

it makes really insecure girls feel like they can show their faces in public. i'm sure it has made a lot of lives a lot happier

my gf doesn't wear much makeup and i can never tell if she's wearing it or not but i've seen girls who go from a 3 to a solid 7 with the application of 14 pounds of makeup

Because of marketing. The constant barrage of inhumanly perfect images of sex appeal fosters a destructive sense of insecurity that can be capitalized on.
I personally request that all women I regularly sleep with/go out with do not wear makeup when they're with me. All of the arbitrary hoops women have to jump through to be considered "hot" are subtle means of keeping them down. Shaving legs, wearing makeup, breast surgery, facial reconstruction, teeth bleaching.... are these practices genuinely beneficial to the women that partake in them, or are they painful manifestations of insecurity and self-perceived inferiority?
It disgusts me that it's come to this. I wish I could love every woman in a way that reaffirmed that it's okay to be who you are; that they don't have to and shouldn't be expected to follow through with these mazelike and arbitrary sex codes.

We can pass "equal pay bills" and laws giving women rights all day long, but until we challenge ourselves to alter the social fabric of the world we live in, patriarchy will prevail. And remember, when we can smash the shackles of oppression, we help our women, our mothers, our sisters to reach their full potential as people; this means that love can again be ever-growing.

It's a culture thing I guess. I like looking put together when I go out.

I don't own any face makup other than a little coverup stick. A few dabs here and there, blush, mascara, and I'm good to go. I'm not a fan of eyeliner, face powders and all that crap that makes your skin worse.

Looks like someone has watched miss representation, if anyone really cares about this topic it is probably worth a watch (even if I felt it was very amateur). But in all honesty I just wanted to come here and rant about how much credibility was lost when the interviewees would talk about how society and media is incorrectly raising women to be nothing but objects who value themselves off of their looks and as they are saying this, they themselves are coated in layers of makeup.

Let women make choices for themselves. You think that societals influence has such a strong-hold on women that we are incapable of making our own decisions and need you to rescue us?

If a woman doesn't feel like an inferior sex for shaving her legs, or wearing makeup- then who are you to tell them they are.

Sometimes wearing makeup is fun. I like doing my eye makeup when I go out on the weekends. Sometimes I spend 30 minutes just doing eye makeup-- you can use different colors and blend. It's a little like coloring/painting.
