Snapped my domains

Sup ns, I snapped my skis yesterday and now I'm gonna try to fix it by screwing a metal plate on it.

so here's what I wanna try to do:

Screw a metal plate( thin but hard like aluminium) on top of the ski where it's snapped. just like screwing some binding on the ski but with a metal plate. It would solidify and keep the ski stiff enough to be used.

here's a little quality drawing of what I want to do lol

So ns, do you think it could work? is it going to hold really well? does anybody have already done this? If yes, some tips would be appreciated =)

i would cover that shit with epoxy before you put the plate down because its inevitable that water is going to and prolly already has gotten into your core. you might be able to finish the season like this tho. also make sure to use shallow screws. shallower than binding screws because they will push through the base if your not careful

alright thanks! I already dried my ski to keep the humidity out of the ski. I'm gonna put some epoxy right now and use shallower screws.

and to answer to post above, I was doing spinning of a fdf box and the tail of this ski fell of the box and hit one of the holder of the box. I was going pretty fast and my ski just snapped

no, I'm going to use 7xxx aluminium plate, it's really hard and it won't bend.

Honestly I dont think its going to work. The metal will need to flex with the ski, or as soon as you flex the tail, it will strip the screws out of the wood. The only way you could do it, is have a longer piece of metal which got thiner so it could flex. I would think it would have to go to the bindings though to hold. The area you are trying to fix, is a very flexy part of the ski, wheras underfoot is stiffer so the screws would be less lickly to pull out. You would then have to bolt the other end though the tail where the ski does not flex.

But that would feel shit to ski, thje tail would be pretty much solid. Unfortunatly those skis are pretty much done. You could try the repair but chances are it will just rip off first time you use it and probably damage the ski even more.

I'm probably not gonna do it anyway, I've done the epoxy job and the ski almost got back his stiffness, I don't feel the difference at all when I'm flexing them. They're not going to be as strong as before and they will probably break easily if they get some hard hit but it's still better than not skiing haha

Cut the base material below it out and but another metal plate on the bottom and screw up and put bolts on the top to sandwich the core with metal. That might work a bit better. May as well try because your skis are fucked anyways

Dude my masterminds (2010) did the exact same thing! Mine was because the wood was exposed, got wet, weakened then gave out when i did a butter. It was two days before a big air so i did the exact same thing and screwed a metal plate across it. I epoxyd it and everything but it only held for two days but enough for the comp. Unless you put screw taps in it the plate WILL strip out in a matter of days.

don't worry, they are a really good ski, I'm just really rude with them and I pretty much deserve what happened haha

and I asked for a warranty but I bought them almost 2 years ago so the warranty is expired...

I was going HAM on a fdf box, I tried to do a disaster 1in but I edgecutted the df kink... going really fast for the disaster and edgecutting the tail right into the box is not really good for a ski as you can see
