My skis are "grabbing" HELP

Has anyone had issues with their skis grabbing on the snow while accelerating down the mountain? Recently mine have been doing this to the point where it slows my way down and I want to find a solution to this problem.

My bases are pretty dried out so I waxed them and that did absolutely nothing. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas?

What he said, and if they were really dried out you might need more than one wax.

just used some rub on wax. would my best bet be to hot wax them?

You have to hot wax eventually, rub-on wax is just a quick fix/performance enhancer, if you bases are bone dry it will only help for a few runs.

Ya the vaseline has to ironed in, otherwise the ski won't absorb it.

I hit a ton of rails so I dont typically tune my skis. Might try a gummy stone though there are probably a bunch of burs.

^this. Had my skis waxed in Utah a few weeks ago and then was riding at bear this week where it was like 60 degrees. Skis were super grabbin. Stripped em and used a warm weather wax and all was right again.

a bigger one is base structure. my skis feel like suction cups on wet snow cause god knows what the structure of my bases looks like now. It's like when you drop glass on water, it's hard to pick up. I almost front flipped a few times because i experienced sudden deceleration on the tips of my skis. scared the shit out of me. NJ snow during the day is practically water.

this time of year, at least where i am, its getting warmer and the dirt, grime, and oil is coming of the rails and is in the snow. It sticks to the bottoms of your skis and makes you go slower. You can get it off with a hot scrap when waxing or if you rub paint thinner on the bottom of your skis it will also come off

Word thanks for all the advice. Im gonna hot wax them which will most likely resolve this issue.

You could be hitting slush patches though. You hit those sometimes and it can really bog you down when you least expect it.

using the 'wrong' temperature wax isnt going to do really any harm, your not doing the best job you can, but it never caused any major deceleration problems.

It sounds like you have a chronically dry base, You will need to really really hot wax them. And even then, you might have such bad base burn, that you will have to get a base grind.

hot wax them with the wax with a temp range that best suits the snow conditions you are skiing on. Let the wax sit on the ski over night so the base has time to soak up the wax. scrape in the morning.
