US soldier snaps, kills Afghan civilians

Seems like some soldier got hit with a little case of nervous breakdown, walked out of the base in Kandahar at 3am and started blasting.
Three confirmed dead, but the real number will probably be closer to fifteen. Women, children, men etc.
The soldier then walked back to the base and let himself be detained. No motive except for the initial breakdown.
Damn, they're not cathing any breaks nowadays over there, with pissing on bodies, burning Qurans and now this.

the key to this stupid post is the fact that you believe that the NATO is trying to preserve "our" freedom over there.
i am pretty sure that with half of the money spent the US could protect themselves better at home without killing hundreds of thousands people in the process.

death. unless they prove some mental disorder. Either way, he's not going to be a free man for the rest of his life.

And your understanding of the UCMJ is based on what?
When was the last time someone was sentenced to death under the UCMJ? What was the crime?

when was the last time someone killed 17 women + children on a maniacle killing spree? Also because of the resulting hatred for Americans the best political move will be to kill him too.
Except another reason why it might not happen is because it's election season so there will be political motivation to NOT kill him or the Republicans will jump right on that. Even though it should have nothing to do with party politics.

I just looked up the last times people have been killed under military law.
One of the last ones was for desertion.. hardly 17 kills.
most of them are for rape and murder. This guy totally has it coming.

Unlike the majority of people these days, I think I will withhold my judgement until after the investigation is done.

I'm guessing you're talking about eddie slovik, right?
Look into his execution and you'll find that it was probably the most unjust execution within the US Army in history. Over 20,000 other soldiers were charged with the same crime, and somehow he was the only one executed.

Eddie Slovik was not executed under the UCMJ.
The last person executed under the UCMJ was in the 1961, following a 1955 conviction for Rape and attempted murder of an Austrain Girl furring the occupation of Europe following WWII.
Since that time, notable incidents have included the My Lai massacre, Hiditha killings, and the rape/murder of a teenage Iraqi girl and the murder of her family, not one resulted in a death penalty conviction.
There are currently 6 service members on death row, only one was convicted of a crime in Theater, and that was the murder of two officers prior to the second Iraq invasion.

Mai Lai massacre saw almost everyone exonerated except for one guy who did 3 years house arrest or something. I wouldn't be surprised if the case falls apart
