5 years of my life gone to waste

so i used to work at a mountain about two minutes away from my house on the park crew and i was fired after 5 years of working there 3 of which were volunteer. so this is what happened my boss had asked me to come in when i was not scheduled and i said i could come in but not untill later cause i had to do things for my dad (pretty much he was paying me 10 dollars an hour to drive around for him and go pick up supplies from the lumber yard and go to the bank etc...) he asked me to com in at three i told him i could be in at 430 at the latest then my boss called me complained and i told him i would be in at 330. he says ok and calls me back and says dont bother comming today, tomorrow or for the rest of the season.

It wasn't a waste man, it would be a waste if you got absolutely nothing out of it. You had a job, at a hill. It's the ski bum thing, I get it, but I'm sure you can find something that would be much better for you.

dude, its not a waste then. Its not like you expected a career to come from the mountain. Use it as experience and as a reference, and look for something better. We all move our way up. Can't say the job I have held since I was 13 is a life builder.

Even a better reason to leave. You weren't going anywhere with it.

If you're 19, it's time to start thinking of stepping into the adult world. A world where you have to make big decisions, one of those decisions is finding a stable job that you can live off of.

Call Human Resources, he had no right to fire you.  You might get a small severance or your job back... could be a tricky situation in the future if you retain your job.  Either he will  be looking for a reason to fire you in the future or he will be scared of HR and let you get away with murder. 

You do have rights though as an employee, you should exercise them.

are you sure you're actually fired? saying don't come in for the rest of the season really isn't that bad if there is only one week left in the season, maybe he just meant you're not scheduled the last week haha

well he fucked you so fuck him back as hard as you can which in this case isn't going to be very hard.

If you want personal revenge thats not going to get you into trouble yourself and have accepted that you won't work there in the future: call his boss/human resources and claim wrongful termination (you were probably were employed at-will so you weren't actually wrongfully terminated but the name of this game is persistence and over exaggeration). Don't go off on the person you're talking to but make it clear that you feel like you were treated improperly and make it even more clear that you aren't going to go away anytime soon so they better deal with you now. In your own head you have to multiply the importance of this issue 100x over if you want outside of yourself to care about what you're saying, you have to be crazy passionate. Blame everything on him, bring up any mistakes he has made no matter how small or unrelated they are, threaten to call the BBB, threaten to call a lawyer (probably too ballsy of a bluff for this situation), later on you can spam the shit out of his email/phone number (make fake craigslist adds with his contact info is the best way).

If you just want money theres not a whole lot of options for you but at the very least you will qualify for unemployment and its just as important to remain passionate and accept no personal blame when you go to apply for that

that being said you pretty much are just fucked, most of that stuff I mentioned is just for retaliation against him to add extra stress to his life like he has yours, chances are you won't personally gain from any of it other thnan unemployment

or you could not be a child and realize this is what is called wrongful dismissal. you cannot be fired for not going to an unscheduled shift unless you are an on-call worker.

look into your local state/provinces human rights laws, but i sense a violation. if you find one call the labour board or call your boss first and explain your position.

Call him monday and apologize that you weren't able to come in when he needed you and explain how you need to know in advance when your shifts are because when your not working at the mountain you schedule time to help out with your father's business.

He either says he can't tell you when your shifts are until the day of, at which point you either deal with the job requirements or you quit.

But most likely he'll apologize and say that he will let you know in advance from now on.
