so i just recently bought a 06 civic si. according to carfax and multiple mechanics, its history is free of any accidents and everything seems clean. today i just noticed that the rear right seam of the bumper is not flush with the side panel. google found no answers for me, but is there any particular reason this would have happened with nobody making contact with my car? does this happen with extended periods of cold weather? clueless. appreciate any input before i take it to a body shop
Dont listent to the tards on here. I build race cars and have been working on cars since I was 15. So that's almost 15 years of experience. Its hard to say without seeing it, but most likely that means that the bumper was replaced at one point. Carfax doesn't always show everything. Sometimes minor fender benders that are not reported to an insurance company do not come up in a carfax search. This does not mean that the car you bought has been totaled or involved in a really bad accident.
Most used cars have been hit at least once. What prob happened is that someone rear ended the car, or the person that had it before you backed up into something. I am talking about low speed accident. The body shop that did the repair either didn't line the bumper up completely, or one of the fasteners had popped out. I wouldn't worry about it to much. If the car drives good, and you have had it checked out by a mechanic you should be good to go. Any halfway competent body shop should be able to fix the alignment of your bumper for cheap.
the person could've driven over a curb and then backed up once they realized they drove over a curb. i'm guessing there's just a clip loose and i doubt it's anything so major that it can't be fixed with zip ties
if i understood the problem correctly, it can definitely come without contact. our family had two passats and they both had (what i figure it to be) the same problem without anyone ever hitting the bumper.
I second this theory as a strong possibility. Along with the person who commented about vw passats I have also seen clips break or come loose without contact so that could be a possibility as well. I really wouldn't worry about it too much
