Yeah its livable but you are talking about a razor thin margin for error in terms of surviving, and you of course have a pretty low standard of living @ 22k in Cali.

inb4 rich kids chide me on living frugally and budgeting.

5.8 million. My pastimes are skiing, gold plating my ferrari collection, and burning piles of money to heat my third guest house. I also have recently purchased three cats to help provide some excitement around the house, unfortunately having lions and jaguars as pets seems frowned upon my society so I have had to keep them in hidden in my underground temple to Cuthulu.

california is really no more expensive than the northeast.

people seem to get this idea of OH EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE GOSH, well yeah, filling up your car sucks pretty hard right now, but it does back in NY and CT too. I blame LA, LA sucks anyway.

I rented a room out from a family for 650 a month.
It helped having a company car with paid gas, but food shopping consisted a lot of coupons, and buying in bulk from costco.

No tv, no cable, most basic phone on the market, with no internet, or media messaging. Saved a few thousand a year, with a phone bill of $30

I was in the tri-county, specifically Ventura. Yeah, fuck LA

But I can say costs of everything out there is 3x what it is in Georgia right now.

about 4-5 grand. get paid to do research for a prof in the school year, work as a store clerk in the summer, sell a little nug on the side to support my weekly alcohol and weed habits.

That's still a pretty big bunch of income tax. I pay just about exactly half that. My rate may be lower than yours though.

I'm from the UK.

I live and work in the states though now - Civil's etc in the UK is piss poor. Get in to the offshore industry.

If you're electrical - definately get in to offshore O&G - the industry is screaming out for people.... thus why there is money to be made!

I'm mechanical, and going into marine drilling actually so not toooooo different in parts I guess.

Def want to live and work abroad for some time, see what time brings.  Moving to within a few hundred miles of mountains would be nice ha!

But then pay 3,900 for rent
And a third of my tuition after 6,000 in loans so there's another 1,000


So in reality................. like 1,000
But then there's food, alcohol, bills, activities
It sucks getting old

This last year i was at 22k , but interviewing for a salaried position on tuesday= Skrilla.. but its in tahoe where everything is inflated, Gas is prob at $4.60 right now.
