Harvard/ East coast question

How many/ which ski resorts are within say an hour and a half of harvard?

I just figured out that it's cheaper for me to go to harvard for four years paying full tuition on financial aid, then my local college. And if i go to a Junior college even cheaper.


What's the average price for room and board for a college student over there?



For kids in college:

How much do you spend a week on food?
Weed?
over all stupid stuff you buy.



Would it be cheaper to live on or off campus?

school > skiing...especially fucking harvard. Honestly skiing isn't really that close to a majority of schools. Most schools have resorts somewhere 30-hour away. Plus at harvard im sure you wont be able to find time to ski with all your owrk

Judging by your skiing/weed habits, I'm guessing Harvard might not be the best place for you.  Not saying you're not smart enough, just saying if weed and skiing are on your list of priorities, you might not fit in very well. 

This is all a giant judgment on both you and Harvard.

Why not Dartmouth? It's like a 45 minute drive to Killington from there.

If you are seriously considering Harvard, and do have faith you will get in, no reason why you couldn't get into another Ivy League.

What are you looking to major in? Most people won't go undeclared to the hill...

Under an hour and a half, not much. There are some small places, but if your willing to go an extra hour all of NH is right there. I went up to cannon yesterday just for the day, its totally doable. Seasons passes to Waterville/Cannon/Cranmore/Bretton Woods are I think 270 for students, so its not bad at all. Find a friend with a car and you'll be good!

As for housing and stuff, Boston and Cambridge are pretty expensive. I would think living on campus would be your best bet. You can do food pretty cheap as well. I'm on the meal plan and its way overpriced IMO. I wish it wasn't mandatory because Boston has some awesome restaurants I'd much rather eat at.

don't get me wrong, Harvard is sweet, Cambridge/boston is AMAZING, and there are a billion things to do in the city, skiing is not one of the many perks

not true at all, my weed dealer in the 90's was a harvard undergrad psych major on academic scholarship. Alot of drugs at harvard and they like meth to stay up all night and study, harvard is not exempt. as far as skiing goes, closest tiny park/hills are blue hills, nashoba and wachusett. all 3 suck, besides that i'd say cannon has the best tree/sidecountry in nh, about 2 hour drive, and loon prob has the better parks in nh, also just under 2 hours from harvard. Lot's of other otions but those are your closest best bets.

Yeah if skiing is something you want to do on a regular basis then you would be a lot better off going to Dartmouth/Colby/Bates. All great schools and way closer to skiing.

You know it's really not hard to get into Harvard. My sister's boyfriend got in with a full scholarship on average As and Bs in a public school in CA. Grades don't matter much, it really only boils down to what activities you participated in throughout highschool. The more the better, if you're a Jr. and applying to colleges, list as many activities as possible for Harvard.

If you shred park just come here to Nashoba... We are launching a College pass for $199 valid Sunday-Thursday from 5-10pm. We are tiny in vertical for sure, but you won't find a better park to lap 1,000's of times a week, being only 25 miles from Boston. Not to mention the best snow-making capabilities in southern New England.

not sure what your interests are besides skiing. but I've grown up in the Upper Valley (the hanover/dartmouth area) and having been dragged to Harvard when my brother went to visit, i can say with full confidence that if you want a really good school on the east, go for dartmouth, not harvard. harvard is stupid hard to get into, thats not to say that dartmouth is easy, its just not as difficult as harvard, and for the interests you've expressed, will be far better for you.

its under an hour away from killington, okemo, sunapee, whaleback(which has a summer setup), and the dartmouth shitway (if you just want to go ski on ice for cheap because you're a student)

weeds going to range you like 60-200 a week. depending on how hardcore you are.
budget money for snacks.

going to harvard you'll meet someone with a ski house very quickly. become friends with them and reap their benefits. theres always kooks from MIT or harvard skiing up north. network the fuck out of that situation. spray kooks.
