ARV or AR7? ++K

I'm 5,11" 15 years old, and weigh about 155 lbs. I ski a bit of everything, mostly hardpack. I'm no expert in the park or BC, so i'm not gonna get too picky over the specs for those, like swing weight etc. However, i am quite good on groomers and i dont want something that wont be stable at speed.

I'm veering toward the AR7 at the moment due to the sizing, 181 would be my choice, as opposed to the 185 on the ARV (which i think is maybe a little too big). Also, i think the 95 waist on the ARV might be too fat for me as i spend more time on piste than off. I think the 89 waist on the AR7 would be about right for me too. And of course, the price is a little bonus (abouut $35 cheaper).

Any help would be greatly appreciated and +K will be awarded :)

well theres a couple of things to consider. First of all the ARV has a waist width of 92 while the AR7's is 85. AR7's are like $75 cheaper than the ARV's right now. The Ar7 is much more of a park ski than the ARV (which is more of an all-mountain/powder ski). If you plan to spend most of you time in the park I would definitely go with the AR7.

What % of skiing will you be doing?
What is your height and weight?

It'll be maybe 20% powder/off piste
70% Groomers/piste
10% Park
Family skiing sucks. :(

It's just whether the ARV's will be too wide to be lugging around hardpack?

If you're just cruising groomer laps there's no need for ARVs and the AR7s will do you fine. That said I own ARVs (and AR6s), and I absolutely love that ski- you can literally take it anywhere from groomers to crud to trees to powder and even the park. My ARVs are a few years older so they're 95 underfoot (I think the new ones are 92 or something).... sounds like you're kinda just looking for a carving ski, in which case both of these skis are probably overkill, but if you're set on one of these two then the AR7 would probably be your ticket.

false not too wide at all to be lugging around hardpack, theyll be great, foresure get arv's

I dont want a carving ski, i will be skiing backcountry every so often i think the 89 waist on the ar7 is wide enough to cope with a little bit of powder, but not too fat to be lugging around hardpack and park all day, whereas the ARV could be?

Scrolled through real quick so maybe you mentioned this and I missed it, but where do you ski? If we're talking east coast backcountry or something you'd probably be fine with the AR7. If you're skiing deep pow out west then the AR7 is not gonna float you in anything above 6" or so. The ARV is really not a "wide" ski. It's just wide enough that it can ski pow, but its also just narrow enough that you can hit rails with em. It sounds like you're looking for a ski that can do a little bit of everything... which is where the ARV fits perfectly in my quiver. Im on TSTs as my every day ski now and whenever I get back on the ARVs they feel like a park ski theyre so nimble.

ARV is my everyday ski and I don't think its too wide at all. That thing rips groomers, and wouldn't be bad on hardpack. To me, they both have the same carving ability, the only difference being that the AR7 will be better in the park and the ARV will be better everywhere else. Having said that I would go ARV as it can do everything, and honestly they're fine in the park. There are edits of Perron and Harlaut using them on rails and they seem fine to them.

Looking to get serious in the park, go AR7. If not, you will be really happy with the ARV. There is a reason its been around for so long.

I've already gone for the AR7, thanks for the advice though +K. I don't think either would let me down though from what i've heard!
