My parents have one of these at home and while it makes a nice enough cup of coffee and the steam spout is alright but the crema you get from it isnt a true espresso crema. The grind and amount of water adjustability is pretty good though. If you can get it for less than $200 you should be happy though.

I own a big sky bistro, boil some water, and walk out the door. I started using it while backpacking and now it never leaves my hand. Its a French press in a mug, and frankly, those are the only two items I need for coffee.
Fvck all those machines. If I want coffee I'm not gonna setup the equivalent of a meth lab just so people can see how fancy pants I am.
Anyone else mason jar cold brew?
Not quite as good as a Yama, but you need about $2 in equipment and it's almost as good. I've become a huge cold brew fan, It's way smoother and less bitter than hot brews. It's less acidic so it's easier on your stomach, keeps in the fridge for 2 weeks without getting stale, and takes no time or effort to make.

Do a small batch see whats up. Highly recommend giving it a try. Start with 12 hours in the fridge with coarse ground, then try different grinds/temperatures/ratios etc.
Im a barista. My drink right now is an iced double white chocolate/vanilla/brown sugar cinnamon (light on all the flavors) with almond milk. We just switched espresso brands and my drink is the best coffee ive ever tasted
Every Nespresso machine makes essentially the same coffee. There isn't a more convenient and consistent system.
I have an old Le Cube and use it more often then the Rocket because it's so simple and always a 7, with the Giotto depending on a lot of things, it can be anything from a 1 to an 11.
Just got my new mypressi twist in the mail today, I wish I wasn't on a college budget...
Stove top frother (Bellman CX-25), also to be used to raise the water temp inside the mypressi (gets here tomorrow!)
I did 3 extractions since I got the mypressi earlier today. I bought a pound of fresh roasted southern Italian espresso beans from the shop down the street, I had them grind half the bag for me since I dont have a grinder yet (need to save some $$$) I was happy to see they made a great grind, very consistent and fine, to the point of clumping.
The first extraction was better then any shop espresso I have ever had in the states, I tamped a little to hard but still delish. (19g)
The second extraction was with some preground lavazza, shitty extraction and shitty taste; dont think I can justify buying preground ever again. It was bitter and tasted like something from starbucks. (unknown weight)
The third shot was comparable to the first, a little more sour this time, I believe it was from over-extraction as I tamped a little to hard again (19g)
I'm already excited for tomorrow morning.. Its a bit of a process to use the mypressi but I kind of enjoy it all.

I would recommend the machine to anyone looking to learn about espresso, It going to be a great learning process as I master tamping, temp, grind, etc.
^ i love cold brewing. it makes some great iced coffee in the summer.
i got an aeropress for christmas and some Intelligencia coffee, this month has been a great one for me. i love my aeropress. hardly any mess, is fast, and makes amazingly smooth bold coffee.
I got this guy for christmas. No idea if its any good, but I spent some time in Europe and knew Id miss the espresso. The coffee is pretty decent I guess but I need to figure out how to use the frother and stuff
Had to buy a new French Press since I made the mistake of stirring it with a knife...cracked it.
Bought a nice Bodum, bigger and better than ever.
Girlfriend bought me a very nice hand grinder for Christmas. Which I love.
Maybe it's just the "boutiqueness" of it, but nice, coarse, hand ground coffee is just oh so much better.
Hope youre not to mad that I didnt listen and got the twist haha but youre right about the grind/extraction comment, its just the best I can do for now.
It depends how much I save up, I might get an encore worst comes to worst, but ideally I'll save up for a mini (prob refurbed) and have a grinder for when I graduate and pick up a real home machine.
How do you feel about la pavoni manual machines? Having a lever machine would be pretty unique
Yes did this all the time in the summer! I would put a lot of beans in so it's usually pretty strong. Then I filter and pour over enough ice to reach perfect strength. Sometimes I add a little bit of milk to sweeten things up, but it's also very good black. (Which is the wonder of making your own cold brew at home, I've had DD iced black and it's not so hot..)
Most recently I forgot a jar, with beans and all, in the back of the fridge for a week. Still drinkable but a definite sharp bite to the aftertaste. A day or so works much better.
Like you said, once you filter it does last awhile which is nice when you're in a rush and need some tasty caffeine.
made some pretty tasty espresso and baileys gelato at work today.
when i'm in town or wherever i like breves(latte made with half and half instead of milk.) wasn't a big straight espresso drinker for a while but i've been getting into it more now.
when i'm at home though i can't really afford an espresso set up so i just make hot chocolate instead haha. 99% cacao melted into hot cream or coconut milk with honey and vanilla bean. they're really good, but i would like to get into espresso once i can afford it.
