Honestly, how the fuck could you possibly put down this guy and write him off as some liberal hipster? While you continue going about your daily life, he is making a difference in the world. He isn't in a particularly powerful position, but he has done everything in his power to stop Kony and he is continuing to do so. Even those of you who believe the cause is hopeless, just think about what you are doing right now. You are talking about Kony; you know he exists. You will go into school or work or whatever it is that you do and potentially tell your friends about this. Was that not the point of this video?

Think about what social media accomplished during the Arab Spring. Think about what it can do right now.

The answer is in the video!

Video -> Popular knowledge -> Important people know and support -> Important people do something about the problem -> something is done about the problem

They don't want us to do anything but support them. That's the brilliance of this. All you do is watch the video and share it. If you do more, that's up to you. But all you have to do is share the video, get people to know and care about it. When the people know, the process above is put and kept in motion.

And this probably won't be any sort of platform for anybody. Denouncing one man's crimes doesn't make anyone electable, it makes them human.

The point is to make Kony known so more people support the idea and in turn make the government see that it is a big deal to its people so that they send more support so that Kony is actually brought to justice. Its not like he is trying to kill the guy with this video. Also, you can take your republican ass remarks somewhere else, the point of this thread is to make Kony known. Not for you to critique it.

You sir are misunderstanding this completely. The idea isnt to raise awareness for the shithole that africa is. This man is quite possibly the most evil man in the world and needs to be stopped, end of story. This isnt about the rest of the crap going on in the world. Its about this one man.

Now you can argue the that it is not feasible for the US to stop him without significant military involvement, but if you watched the video you know that kona is already shaking in his boots knowing that there are US forces looking for him. If we supply the troops in uganda with the advice and technology that they need, he can be taken down.

The video itself is encouraging people to be active about spreading the world, that way congress will know that we the people really care about this. If congressman know that the majority supports sending more aid, than they will too. Congressman (in general) look to support the majority, that's how democracy works.

Do you not think that the government will do something? Or is it that you don't think there is anything that we can do?

2. I thought the video was semi-terrible.

why i thought the video was terrible
-half the video was about how we the people can make a difference.... NO FUCKING SHIT, the U.S. is democratic, that is the definition of democracy.
-the guy used propaganda and advertising to basically raise an army of people who want to kill Kony, the exact type of army he opposes
-it makes me sick to watch people manipulate the public, videos similar to this one could be made about just about every tiny issue (not saying Kony is a small issue) in the world to the point where the entire U.S. would burst into tears upon watching it and support it
-the "cover the night" day is 4/20...... are you fucking kidding me?
-by making kony less invisible, we are only giving him the fame/power/attention he desires and doesn't deserve. if this works (i don't think it will honestly), then we will have done it out of good intentions, but if it does not work, we will have advertised his ways and handed him more power than he already has literally on a silver platter

just my $.02...... inb4 people wanting to rip my head off

I have very, very little faith in the US government.

I understand your point. The medium is contemporary. The video is spreading at incredible rates. It articulates the seriousness and inhumanity of the situation perfectly. People are reacting, which is great because people may become interested in the LRA and african political/economic issues.

In other news, my mother just called me half an hour ago and asked for a wheat paste recipe so she can put up posters everywhere...

i find it grotesquely astounding that the damage from hurricane katrina has been completely ignored and not even close to being fixed, 5 years later, but that this guy is somehow an issue to you guys.

it also amazes me how people get so emotional about children in africa, or any country other than the US for that matter

no this is not intended to be racist but how come we love everybody but ourselves? personally i'd expect individuals to love family, friends, and those they see on a daily basis more than those they've never met, seen, or known

but here we have millions of americans sobbing as if their mother was just killed

i'm not saying it is wrong, rather i am saying we're loving the wrong people, in a way. the world needs more love, caring, and affection, but you gotta start with those closest to you first.

I agree with you, but his efforts are somewhat noble. He is raising awareness. The youtube page is currently broken. It reads 54k views and 100k likes. If it wasn't for this video a hell of a lot of people wouldn't know about Joseph Kony. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people sharing/watching this video know where uganda is, or anything about the country

i assume by this response that you have poured time and effort into fixing the damage of hurricane katrina, and are therefore right in being pissed that your fellow americans are not helping you in that cause...

or have you done nothing for the victims of katrina, and sit on the internet whining about how people shouldnt help other people because they, just like you, are not helping the people in their own country.

I watched the entire Invisible Children movie in World Issues class, it's absolutely fucked what is happening in Uganda. It's disgusting violations of human rights that go utterly unnoticed. Thanks for posting this. +k for something people should really care about.

Exactly^^ its laughable that all these kids are hearing about the problems in Uganda years after they effectively finished and getting all self-righteous. (Kony is now in the DRC i believe? And uganda is a lot safer than it was)

Secondly, we've spent the last 10 years trying to stop TEAM AMERICA WORLD POLICE. Yet now suddenly we want them back in action making hits on african warlords. At least it'll make a good sequel

yeah i dont think you people who say "oh now you care..." get it, the whole movement is to spread awareness. not going to lie i had no idea who this guy was and what the fuck was going over there.. but after watching that video and hearing about what is happening i want it to change and i want to be part of that change. the whole point is to get people to see what is happening to those kids and start to care and help solve the problem.
