So the onus of personal responsibility should fall to the mountain? Do you not believe in free will? Would you like the government to regulate every action that you take? Should there be laws against going into the wilderness or surfing, because it could potentially be hazardous? Maybe certification should be required before driving into the inner city past 11:00 pm, as that can certainly be dangerous in the wrong neighborhood.

Let people make decisions - good or bad - for themselves. Personal culpability should be embraced.

I'm all for people being held responsible for their own actions, but you're not looking at it correctly. Mountains are private, they have large insurance policies, and if a fucker like this choses to sue for his injuries, it's going to be a big loss for the mountain. Park passes, to an insurance company and from a risk management perspective, will improve park safety tenfold. It's the same exact reason that the shop owner doesn't want you hitting his rail, it's not because it leaves scratches and might be a form of vandalism, it's because it leaves him responsible for your injury. Mountains are responsible for the skiers and their safety, which a park pass can improve and appease the insurance companies. If it's public, do what you want, climb a steep granite face with inadequate safety precautions, but a private ski area is NOT to be treated the way a National Forest or public beach would be in terms of safety.

He really is lucky he didn't become a parapalegic, nearly landed on his neck.  However, notice the human body will automatically, instinctively attempt to time/adjust itself in the air to minimize injuries?  In this particular fall, his body kinda went limp instead of staying tight and continuing onto his neck/head, spreading the force over as much area as possible, a bit to the side.  And I guarantee he didn't know what the hell was going on when he was in he air.  He went huuuuge!

dude, here in Qc, we have park pass. It only cost 20$ and it's clearing the park from all those stupid dude who sit on the landings,try big air and fuck themselves up. IMO park pass are just a good thing other than paying the little 20$.
