World isn't ending like the mayans predicted

Ridiculous

Saw this on the internet....

There have been about 514 Leap Years since Ceasar created it in 45BC. Without the extra day every 4 years, today would be July 28th, 2013. Also, the Mayan calender did not account for leap year....

So if the world was going to end in 2012 it should have ended 7 months ago:)

I am not saying it is going to end, but...

Your logic is faulty.

The only way your leap year theory would work would be if the Mayans believed each year had 365 days in it (not 365.25 days). The Mayan Calendar does not work in this manner. Mayans have a system of calendars that are not synchronized with the moving of the sun or the moon. This means that they ended their calendar on their time of 13.0.0.0.0 .... That date will occur on December 21, 2012. Leap year has no effect on this.

The calendar doesn't say the world will end on "January 21 2012". It was a totally different system of time keeping. Therefore working backwards from that date due to leap years is irrelevant. That date was actually worked out forwards from the mayan calendar.

The date for the end of the calendar is correct. If you look into how precise their astronomy was it is actually quite amazing. But obviously the world is not going to end on that date!

funny thing is the myan calender is based on the suns rotation and has nothing to do with days or months an inaccurate method of measuring time. The winter solstice is measured by the shortest day of the year and has been a pagan holiday since the beginning of mankind. THIS IS NOT TRUE!
