University of Colorado Concealed Carry Ban Ruled Unconstitutional

The Colorado Supreme Court has ruled that the CU Board of Regents does not have the authority to prohibit concealed carry permit holders from carrying on campus. Just got the email from the chancellor who was obviously not pleased about the decision. Good to see the courts step in and protect our rights when they are threatened.

I took my gun to school, to work , to the beach.. Drove past schools , children at play etc Through the center of LA, across my small hometown. Had no desire to shoot anyone the whoel time believe it or not. Guns arent scary, they are metal and powder.. Idiots with guns are scary.

definitely not "proof" for the contrary, but still worth a look, comparison of gun related deaths and weapon laws:

i cant see an OBVIOUS correlation in the direction you implied, if any at all. of those states which restrict carrying guns the least, only SD has a somewhat low gun-related-death-rate. most very restrictive states also have high GRD-rates. in general, it looks pretty "random".

there are too many factors that come in to play to just look at gun laws for a state and relate them to deaths. for a state with more relaxed gun laws, how many deaths are in self defense? one state or part of that state could have more of a gang problem than others, or more crime in general than others, etc.. ill find the other thread when i have time..

i think that is for everyone, no one hopes they ever have to use they're weapon on another human in self defense.

if you have a ccw you have gone through a basic training course that has made sure you are knowledgable in how the gun works and how to use it. most people that have a concealed carry permit arent new to using firearms either. I do not have my permit but it is definitly something i plan on getting, I have been brought up around firearms my whole life and is something that I dont see why people are intimidated by them. I do nor plan on carrying it on my person at all times as that is just stupid in my location. however i do see it useful when i go riding, and keeping it in my vehicle since there are some crazy people on the roads.

agreed. But only a small small incredibly small % of gun owners are gonna do somethin with them and are far outweighed by people who would happily put holes in them to stop em.

thats your point and thats ok. i just dont think that our society should rely on them to act like the police. its the governments job to provide safety and i understand that the US are "build" differently, but still, some things should not be in our daily lives.

thats my point and i hope thats ok. i know from a bazillion earlier discussions that noone will ever change his mind or take a serious look at the counterparty's "facts". but just as a reminder, the pro-weapon side seems to rely more on ancient rights, tradition and evoking emotions than logical and humanistic facts. thats obviously a blatant generalization, but its my impression.

i totally understand where you are coming from. seriously. i might even admit that i agree with some aspects of your opinion. thats not a bad thing. thats what discussions are for. people always forget that its not necessarily the goal that everyone has the same opinion afterwards.

i think that the government has to set the tone if you will. establish an environment with so little violence that the overwhelming majority of people doesnt feel like owning a gun.

Heres two threads on the topic, with a bunch of statistics from woozy and others there's a ton of info in these threads and the more you read up on the statistics in these threads and elsewhere, the more and more it makes sense that more guns = less crime. common sense really explains just as much.

Or you draw your sick conceded carry permit, the kids who are holding your friend freak the fuck out cause they just got a gun pulled on them causing them to stab your friend and making you shot him. Sick outcome bro.

I honestly would be willing to bet if someone did a study, people who actually carried got in more trouble than people who didn't. And by trouble I mean having a situation escalate to something more simply because they had a gun, not actually causing the problem, just escalating it.

i have that feeling as well. not that it happens very often, but i would expect that some people die in minor situations going down the shitter because someone drew a gun.

ok times the number of deaths by 10 then u still have 8000deaths to account for not dumb post. yea probably could get a gun off of a cops belt. If you have a concealed weapon someones going to hear about it its school someones facebooks status would be like oo just got my concealed weapons license, someone will be talking about it at school people will find out. Just saying guns are retarted another reason why I'm so damn lucky to live in Canada greatest country in the world :)

i dont have any statistics, im just going off what i was told in my concealed carry class, and the statistics they had showed that using a concealed carry resolved the situation more often than without. either way more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens = less crime.

how many of those deaths are from CCW holders or from legally acquired firearms? how many are gang related? the US has so many more fucked up high crime rate areas than canada, canada has nowhere near the drug crimes we do. to say that canada has a smaller percentage of deaths compared to the US so guns = more crime is just stupid. there are way too many factors to consider.
over 50% of gun related deaths in the US are suicide, so right there over 50% of gun related deaths have nothing to do with murder or use on another person.

people like you are why im so damn luck to live in the US where we have the freedom to defend ourselves and have the ability to have power over criminals. i would never want to live somewhere where the laws gave criminals more power than law abiding citizens..

if you take the trouble to get your fucking concealed weapons licence, i'd bet money you are a law-abiding citizen who plans no ill will. the issue (or so it seems to me) is the ready availability of guns. no kid planning on shooting up the school, will go get a fucking LICENCE. he will go buy a gun (very easily accessible in the US) and do his shit.

the problem is ease of access, not certification.




also:

why is nobody worried about where the wackos are coming from? before 2002, these school shootings that everyone is using as reason for carrying a gun did not even exist. now, suddenly it's taken as fact that they will continue, and we should all carry weapons to prevent it.

this stat is useless without accounting for population differences. the us has about 10 times more people than canada.

per capita, canada seems to have it worse than the us.



and i'm against guns... i think. both sides putting out good arguments. thanks for keeping it civil.

25% of public shooting are stopped by citizens with guns, so you're saying that we should take the guns away from the citizens who stopped the shootings? So then the shooters aren't stopped, and kill more people? Why wouldn't we be making an effort to give more law abiding citizens guns, to stop more shootings? Why do you think mass shootings often happen at schools? Because they are an area where there is a dense population of UNARMED people.

so let me say this.. you are a dumb ass and if they day ever came where you were in the same classroom as me and some guy went nuts and started shooting people up(this has happened at numerous high school and colleges throughout the US) I would let him shoot you in the face first and then I would shoot him with the gun I had in my back pack.

I am sorry but having a bunch of "law-abiding" citizens carrying concealed guns just because maybe they can stop a school shooting is bad idea. Honestly, I don't even see how it could help having a bunch of kids carrying guns in school in order to prevent school shootings... Like all that is gonna happen is a bunch of untrained kids are going to end up having a gun fight in the middle of a school, and prob getting more innocent people hurt for no reason at all.
