your parents are fucked. the law recently changed so that if a party is busted and there's underage drinking, the parents are most likely going to jail if they're present. the cause of this law happened to be a party just down the street from my house, it was a good one.

oh wait I forgot, everybody doesn't live in Connecticut, where the law actually is.

Story behind said party/law coming into place?

my freshman year, this kid asked his dad if he could have a few people over after prom. after his dad said yes, he started selling tickets. yeah, tickets. five dollars for a mug, and that got you in. about 100 mugs were actually sold, I'd say. at the end of the night, I've been told there were something like five hundred people there. there was apparently a knife fight, a huge brawl between a bunch of redneck kids and some black kids who showed up, and every ambulance in the region was there. the kid's dad was home, and after that they changed the law. it made national news! my school's now been on the news twice in the four years I've been here, I'd say that's pretty impressive for a tiny agriculture-based school in Connecticut. (we've got about three hundred kids in the school.)

Ok gang. I have finally found a computer to use so it is story time.


So everything starts off like a normal party usually does. You know like 20-25 maybe 30 people? Sort of decent sized get together. Mostly my sisters friends but I know all of them so its all good. Its about 9:30-10ish and its really going off. Loud tunes, Lots of alcohol consumption, All that jazz. 10:30 rolls around and some kid went outside to smoke a cig and notices flashing cop lights down the street. The cops were just checking out some cars parked illegally on the road. (My neighborhood doesn't want cars parked on the side of the roads because the snowbanks make the streets very narrow)

This is where shit starts to get sort of haywire. The kid just comes in, Casually and calmly says that there are cop cars out side and everybody needs to go back inside and cool out until its clear and that my parents will handle it. Of course no one reacts calmly and starts to lose their shit. They think they are here to bust a party but the cops were really just asking people to move their cars. Of course two fucking retarded kids think its a smart idea and make a dash for it only to be spotted by a cop. The cop gets pissed and of course comes to the door. Cop comes inside, Comes downstairs and lets everybody know what the deal is and that the two kids need to come back or else everybody is getting PBT'd.


This is where it gets pretty good. The cop has his little notepad/noteboook and asks for the kids names that ran. One kid speaks up and gives the kids name. It was Chad something, Can't really remember. The cop writes it down. Another kid speaks up and says "Channing Tatum". The cop writes it down mid-way and finally catches it and at this point, everybody that was there was just bursting out laughing. Cop goes "Very funny. You guys are very clever. I have two daughters, You don't think I don't know who Channing Tatum is?". He demands everybody to go upstairs to the living room to get breathalyzed.

At this point, We are thinking we are all completely fucked because everyone there with the exception of 3 or 4 DD's were at least 2 to 3 beers deep. A couple girls already puked (lol lightweights) because they split a 5th of smirinoff between eachother. Anyways, At this point my mom demands me to go upstairs to my room to stake out until shit cools down. Very odd seeing as me and the cop both made eye contact for a good 4 to 5 seconds. Enough for someone to recognize someone, you know.

At this point, It starts getting ridiculous. The cop's lack of common sense and logic was just unreal. I mean this dudes a cop and you'd think he'd have a good amount of common sense seeing as he helps catch criminals and shit. He begins to breathalyze the 30-some people only to realize he doesn't have enough tube things for the breathalyzer machine thingy. He did have about 2 other officers with him and even all of them combined didn't have enough tubes for the breathalyzer. So instead of that, He tries to organize everybody in a kindergarten fucking elementary school way.

He goes "Everybody who has drank, Stand over here. And everybody who has not, Stand over here." Pointing to to the living room and kitchen. Of course everybody is going to stand in the zone designated for people who haven't drank. He realizes that didn't work so he starts writing down more names in his notebook thing. He has like 4 pages of names possibly fake ones or not written down. He sets his notebook down on the table and he starts to give his "Dangers of teen drinking" lectures and speech and shit. While he does that, One of the kids sees his notebook completely unattended, Takes it, rips out all 4 pages of the names and puts it back. It is beyond me how this cop did not notice his 4 pages of notes are missing.

Funny thing is, There was an even more massive party last night that he busted up and all the kids that were there were also at our house yet the cop did not issue tickets nor anything at our establishment. Its obvious that the two other cops really didn't give a rats ass about the party and just wanted to go attend to other more serious things. Another thing I didn't get is none of the cops asked for my parents names. Very funny things. Lot's of the kids were fucking freaking out asking my older sister (who is of drinking age who was home here on spring break with a couple of her friends) and her friends whats going to happen. Of course they chose to fuck with the kids and tell them they are royally fucked for life. Funny shit.

So after that all went down and everybody left, It was just me, My older sister, her friends and my mom. So we all got trashed and smoked doobies all night just laughing our asses off at the fact that not only could of been completely screwed, But the fact that the stupidity of the cop was just absolutely unreal. We grew up in a little lake town with a small police department with the dumbest officers every imagined but this dude took the cake.

If a cop comes to your house without a warrant, and your are having a party with illegal activities going on its very simple. Don't open the door, and yell out the door "I have nothing to say to you" or if they are in your yard "get off my property before I call your supervisor". If they actually had probable cause or a warrant they wouldn't be asking to come in the house... they would be breaking down your door.

wrong. if you dont answer the door, they can assume that someone is in imminent danger(i heard a female Scream), or they look through a window and see illegal shit going down...at which point a warrant is moot.


the correct answer is to keep the door closed, go out the side door, and go talk to the cops without ever having to open the door. politely apologize for the noise, and tell them you will kick everyone out(college party) or you you will throw a movie on and cut the music(high school party).
