Suggest a good read for me

So, I honestly havent read a book cover to cover since about 8th grade. I'm now a sophomore in college. I think its time i learned how to read again. Can anyone suggest me some good adventure books? I love stuff like Jack London's call of the wild, Adv of Huck Finn, into the wild and hatchet. Looking for something along those lines, can be humorous, but i love the 'independent boy becomes a man through his wilderness adventure' theme. Thanks for the help in advance!

Also should look into some Kerouac, such as On the Road or The Dharma Bums (best ending ever). Also look into some George Orwell (1984 is a great read). I'd start with the Hitchhiker trilogy of five. Such good books, great humour.

not trying to offend anyone, but 1984 is the worst book ive ever read. i hate sci-fi and fantasy stuff, more into realistic stories (fiction or non)

Ok, then read some Kerouac. It's his stories of his travels around the beat generation in America. Beautiful writing style

i am currently reading Game of Thrones and I love it. It's fantasy but not TOO fantasy, and full of sex, fighting, war, betrayal, hunting, stories, it's just awesome.

Shantaram was fucking fantastic. I can't thank hamnuts enough for suggesting it. yes, it took me 1 year and 5 months to finish it.

need another suggestion now! I'm looking for a similar adventure novel, prefer NONFICTION, <500 pages. GO!

The Book of Illusions. Good if you're interested in reading about people dealing with sadness and death. Really really good read.

the beach by Alex garland is probably the greatest adventure/travel book of all time. besides the name, it is nothing like the movie.
