Old look ZR world cup bindings are they safe to still ski ?

Ive just found some old look ZR bindings on a pair of skis in my local bin on the way home from work the skis where fucked but the bindings look in pretty good condition other than being old and having a little plastic clip missing from the toe peice. anyone now if there still safe to mount or not worth the risk? 

thought id take them anywho cos free stuff is free stuff can always go back in the bin :D

yea, technically they will still be safe to ski. The heel is exactly the same as current pivot/fks heel pieces, and the toe is essentially the same mechanically, just with a different metal shell surrounding the internals of the toe piece. It'd be hard to find a shop to mount them because I believe they're no longer indemnified, but if you have a friend thats a shop tech or can do your own mounts, you just scored a pair of pivots. post pics of bindings and i can tell you the approximate generation/ age. If they are all metal I say go for it. If not I may be interested in taking them off your hands.

Those look to be from the late 90s or early '00s, came after the steezy neon ones and before the current pivot design.

ah sweet i thought they might be from the 80s or something. do you know if they have the same drill pattern as the new pivots/fks ?

heel is the same, toe has a three screw pattern, two up front, one in between in the back. youre going to need an older jig to accommodate drilling the toe.

Can't tell from the fuzzy picture, but I'm concerned about the piece the appears to be missing from the toe-piece contact area on the one binding.

yea theres a little plastic tab gone thats all thats wrong with them ive put my toe peice into them and there seems to be no extra movemwent, sketchy way of checking i know , is there anywhere you can buy little parts like these ?

I'd avoid using them without having a legit shop at least look them over.  More than likely, they were in a ski shop dumpster for good reason.  If you need them, new bindings start looking pretty cheap compared to ACL surgery.

I agree with the above statement. Get an old ass pair of skis that don't matter. Mount them up and then have them torque tested to see that they release within the acceptable ASTM range.

Also, it's not a bad idea to have your bindings checked at the beginning of each season, especially given the amount of abuse we put our gear through. Remember, binding technology is all about safety!

where could i get then torgue tested. totally agree im not in the mood to destroy myself to save some money but would be nice to find something that works for free :D

I dont think many shops would mount them b/c they are not on the binding indemnification list.

No shop that follows the indemnified list (which they all should) will touch those.

If you are gonna mount them urself then ur good
they may be indemnifiable tho, which means a shop cant work on them as they are too old
